It Takes a Community, Not a Village

“It takes a community, not a village.”

That’s one of CEO Scott Baier’s favorite things to say about the work of Community Pregnancy Clinics (CPCI)—a local nonprofit headquartered and founded in Naples that has grown to serve women and families across Florida for more than five decades.

What began in 1974 as a volunteer-run ministry in Naples has grown into a statewide medical organization with five clinics in Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Gainesville, along with three Mobile Medical Clinics. At its heart, CPCI is about one simple idea: when people face an unexpected or difficult season, they shouldn’t have to navigate it alone.

CPCI provides free and confidential services including pregnancy testing, medical-grade ultrasounds, STI screening, counseling, education and material assistance. Its nurses and staff create a welcoming and safe environment where clients can ask questions, understand their circumstances, and connect with the resources they need without judgment.

A Place to Begin Again

Brooke’s story

When Brooke arrived at CPCI, she felt overwhelmed by the news of an unexpected pregnancy while also carrying the weight of painful experiences from her past.

Brooke had experienced abuse during her younger years, and healing had been an ongoing journey. She reached out to CPCI seeking guidance and support during a difficult time.

Amidst her fear, Brooke was met with kindness and compassion.

The medical team met her where she was, listened to her story, and treated her with the dignity she deserved. Along with professional medical care, the CPCI team connected Brooke with resources to support her continued healing and walked alongside her throughout her pregnancy.

"The support I received from such a compassionate staff meant more to me than the medical appointment itself. The CPCI team gave me a place to find hope again" - Brooke

Brooke found hope and was able to look toward the future with growing excitement as her baby also grew. She prepared to welcome her baby in the hope that she would give her child the same love, compassion, support, and encouragement that she experienced in her journey with CPCI.

Because of generous community supporters and local partners, Brooke and women like her have the opportunity to begin again.

Stories like Brooke’s are at the heart of why CPCI exists. A woman who once walked through the doors uncertain about her future can, with the right support, find stability, build confidence and eventually become someone who gives back to her own community.

CPCI’s support extends beyond the exam room. Families can receive essential baby supplies such as clothing, diapers, and wipes for children up to age three. CPCI also works alongside local community partners to connect clients with additional resources, including financial assistance, housing, safety, and family support.

For CPCI’s nurse managers and medical teams, their work is deeply personal. They see firsthand that every client arrives with a different story. Some are excited. Others are overwhelmed. Some simply need a safe place to ask questions. The role of the CPCI team is to meet each person where they are, provide professional care, and help connect them with resources that can make a difficult moment more manageable.

“Community is what makes this possible,” Baier says. “We can provide the care and support, but it takes an entire community of people willing to invest in families.” This is why community partnerships matter so much.

After more than 50 years, CPCI remains deeply rooted in the communities it serves. Its growth has been made possible by dedicated medical professionals, staff, local partners and supporters who believe healthy families and strong communities are worth investing in.

For Naples, that means a hometown organization making an impact far beyond its walls... one woman, one family, one baby, and one future at a time.
