It's Not Just About Baking—It's About Tradition

Cathy McReynolds Shares a Family Recipe that Contains Sugar, Oranges and a Whole Lot of Love

The end of the year is all about family and tradition. For Cathy McReynolds, CEO and owner of Lacefield Music, making her orange cut-out cookies brings her back to her childhood and baking with her mother and sisters during the holidays.

“My two sisters and I would make cookies every single year with our mother,” McReynolds says.  “I did this with my four children every single year too. This is a tradition I continue throughout today. I set a date, and my daughters and wonderful daughters-in-law bring my 17 grandchildren over, and we make those very same cookies. It's a zoo, and they all take turns making their cookies. We have a blast, and it's so loud you can hardly hear one another throughout the house. These are memories we will all have forever.”

Orange Cookies

2/3 cup of butter

2 eggs

1/2 teaspoon of salt

2 tablespoons of orange juice

1 1/4 cup of sugar

3 cups of flour

2 tablespoons of baking powder

1/2 grated orange peel

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and dry ingredients. Add juice and orange rind. Refrigerate. Spoon onto a baking sheet and bake at 350 F until light brown or done to taste.
