Jazzing Up For Jewelry

Lordo's Diamonds Team Devotes Themselves To Ensuring Happy Customers

With Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day around the corner, Lordo's Diamonds' jewelry specialists assure they dedicate themselves to providing customers with exceptional service, a splendid selection of fine jewelry, competitive prices and exquisite, quality diamonds.

This jewelry business represents a full spectrum of detailed, knowledgeable experience from which to operate. In 1954, Alphonse Lordo founded Lordo’s Diamonds, with his wife, Nina. As young boys, their sons, Mike and Jim, joined them on weekends and in the summer months, learning about jewelry and the culture of a family business. Now, nearly seven decades later, Mike and Jim continue the family business, with 80 years of experience between them.

"My first memories of the business as a boy come from us having mountings and loose diamonds that had to be set. I was paid 25 cents a diamond for any I found on the floor. That was quite a motivator in the 1960s," Jim recalls.

He says Lordo’s team members are intentionally non-commissioned. "Instead, we put the focus where it should be, which is ensuring each and every purchase best matches the customer’s dreams," he adds.

With 23 grades of color and 11 grades of clarity, Jim says selecting the right diamond can sometimes feel overwhelming. "Our professional staff will help you understand the basics behind the four C’s — cut, clarity, color, and carat weight," he adds.

Additionally, the store has 500-plus diamond ring mountings to offer.

Pinterest has become influential in their business, enabling the Lordo's team to help customers be heroes. "Seven out of 10 guys come in with Pinterest images regarding what their ladies desire. I look at Pinterest myself and try to stock according to trends. But if we don't have it, we can create it, as long as we have a picture," Jim says.

Whether to commemorate or to celebrate, Mike says the store's team understands each gift of jewelry is special, meant to convey appreciation and love. "We strive to provide every customer a jewelry store experience wrapped in that sentiment as well."

Located in Ladue at 9222 Clayton Road, the store carries engagement rings, wedding bands, watches and fashion jewelry.

Mike says the in-house jewelry repair is full service: cleaning, ring sizing, prongs retipped, setting stones, watch batteries, broken clasps or restringing pearls. "Our jewelers specialize in cleaning, repairing and restoring antique jewelry."

As a complimentary service to Lordo's customers, Jim says they professionally clean and polish fine jewelry purchased there. "Prior to cleaning, our team inspects jewelry for any loose gemstones or other potential problems," he adds.

Appraisals for fine jewelry also are available for estate, insurance or tax purposes, with the expertise of GIA diamond graduates and Accredited Jewelry Professionals to provide extra assurance. Jim says the store's team maintains a copy of complete appraisals in their records for future reference and updates.

Award-winning designer fashion jewelry collections offered at Lordo's are Cherie Dori, David Kord, Fana, Kattan Diamonds & Jewelry, S. Kashi, Stuller, Supreme, Vahan and Vikens.
