Jewell Orthodontics is the new orthodontic practice in Lee’s Summit dedicated to transforming smiles and lives. Dr. Abby Jewell has brought her passion for orthodontics back to her hometown, creating a practice that embodies excellence, innovation and community spirit.
Born and raised in Lee's Summit, Dr. Jewell embarked on a remarkable journey that took her from the halls of Lee's Summit West High School to the prestigious University of Alabama for her undergraduate. Upon returning to Kansas City, she pursued her dream of becoming an orthodontist, completing a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree before earning a coveted spot in the orthodontic residency program at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester. It was there that Dr. Jewell honed her skills in craniofacial orthodontics, setting the stage for her future endeavors.
Driven by her love for Lee's Summit and a desire to give back to the community that shaped her, Dr. Jewell made the decision to establish her practice in her hometown.
“I have always loved Lee's Summit,” says Dr. Jewell. “I am big on community spirit. I was on the dance team in high school, and my favorite thing was how energetic the school was at all of the sporting events. I think that Lee's Summit has flourished over the last decade in community events and engagement. Most of my family lives here, so for me it was a no-brainer that I wanted to establish a practice near family, in my hometown where I had the chance to be very active in the community as well.”

"When I was designing the space, I wanted it to be bright and airy but comfortable for all ages. It is important to me that my patients feel at ease and welcome during their visits. The large windows throughout the entire office allow the natural sunlight to brighten the space and add warmth. My color scheme incorporates a lot of the green family—think sages, eucalyptus and emeralds, which adds some comfort colors to the office.”
New patients can expect a thorough evaluation.
“As a first time patient, we take a full set of records—photos, panoramic and cephalometric radiographs and a 3D scan for a model of their teeth, if needed. I then do a full clinical evaluation followed by a thorough explanation of the findings from the exam. I review what treatment is recommended, if any, and then Elyce takes over and reviews next steps with the patients to help them get started.”
When it comes to treatment, the debate between metal braces and clear aligners often arises. Dr. Jewell, however, emphasizes that the choice ultimately depends on the patient's needs and preferences. While metal braces have been a staple, clear aligners have made significant strides in recent years—clear aligners can achieve results comparable to braces and are sometimes even preferred by patients.
One unique offering is WildSmiles Braces, also known as designer braces--these are fun and playful, allowing patients to express their personality during treatment. Beyond the practice, Dr. Jewell extends her expertise to the cleft and craniofacial team at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where she treats patients with cleft from infancy all the way to adulthood.
