For 25 years, Mark Wilamowski has provided Grosse Pointers with solid quality options to assist them in protecting their assets.
“We insure you the proper way, and we handle everything.” Wilamowski, a licensed broker with State Farm Insurance, is passionate about State Farm’s commitment to service , which allows him to stand behind the products he sells.
“We’re top-notch with claims,” he says, and that statistic should be a key factor when purchasing a policy. “You carry insurance, so you are covered if you have a major issue. Odds are, you will never place a major claim, however, if one happens, you will have to deal with it.”
Mark’s advice? “If you own a house, especially in the Pointes, you need the right amount of coverage. It is not just about the quote you find online, it should reflect the right policy for you, your household and your property. The agent writing your policy should know you.” Mark learns about the client and inspects houses before he quotes and writes the policy.
“I can walk through, depending on the size, and take pictures, ensuring you have the correct coverage. I also quote back-up of sewer/drain coverage for basements. State Farm now has 5% or 10% of the estimated replacement cost of the house as coverage amount. Most companies offer a flat $5000 or $10,000 for that coverage, but if you have a nice, finished basement, and you have a back-up, what is $10,000 going to cover?
“The old limits just don’t work, especially in Grosse Pointe homes.”
The next step is sitting down with clients to explain the coverages. “We meet with our clients and develop a relationship. We are straight up with people and detail the costs. When they leave our office, they understand their policy premium. Our quotes are usually around 100% of the estimated replacement cost of the house,” Mark explains. State Farm’s emphasis is on reliability and response when the need arises to place a claim.
Mark Wilamowski is licensed by the state of Michigan to write policies for property, casualty, life, and health. He holds State Farm’s top rankings for brokers, including Chairman Circle, and is a Legion of Honor Qualifier. He has one of the lowest lapsed/cancellation rates in the area, a fact in which he takes great pride.
“My clients rarely ever leave,” he points out. His clients can call him directly, and Mark or Conrad, his office manager of eight years, offers one-stop support. “I can write reimbursement checks for tow bills right from my office and for other homeowner claims, I can issue up to $5000. People love that.”
Mark also specializes in policies for high-end clients with lakefront homes in the Pointes and throughout Michigan. He writes condos, apartment buildings, and many commercial businesses on Mack and in the Village. “I like writing commercial policies and meeting the owners,” he says. “We don’t lose people unless they retire.”
Mark joined State Farm in his Grosse Pointe office on 01/01/01. “I am glad I made the choice to come here. This is a beautiful, family-oriented community. The lake is wonderful, but the people make it what it is.”
Mark’s father was a State Farm agent for 40+ years, which prompted his decision to join the company. He retired from a career in international contract negotiation, where he traveled extensively for 20+ weeks a year, visiting over 35 countries. He has also visited all 50 states. His office is a treasure trove of Detroit sports memorabilia, including seats from Tigers Stadium, tickets to Opening Day at Comerica Park, and Lions gear. He even has a few players as clients.
Mark funded his undergraduate degree from Oakland University by bowling in Classic leagues (he boasts 13 sanctioned 300 games and five 800 series) and was part of a professional tournament league each year in Las Vegas. He proudly holds two Master’s degrees from Indiana University. Mark lives in Grosse Pointe Woods with his wife, Andrea, a Pharmaceutical Clinical Trial Ambassador. Their son, Kyle, is a 2012 graduate of Grosse Pointe South.
Mark’s globetrotting experiences really come in handy with clients. “We build rapport. “You need a policy that is right for you from someone who knows this community. Having the cheapest rate isn’t always the most important consideration,” Mark says. We aren’t always the least expensive but always provide reliable service.” He recommends bundling home and auto, which can save about 32% on the house and 17% on autos; umbrella policies add another $1-2 million of coverage for homes and autos.
Now in his 25th year, Mark enjoys meeting and educating new clients. He can be reached at State Farm Insurance, 19637 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods; (313) 881-8100 or mark@callmarkw.com.
