A Veterinarian’s Compassion Transforms Pets and Families

Veterinarian Kate Oliver, D.V.M., is the steady, beating heart of Oliver Animal Hospital and the most dedicated individual I have seen in her field of work. When she moved to my Dripping Springs neighborhood, my family had recently adopted two ridiculously wrinkly vizsla puppies named Dotty and Sandy.

Dotty and Sandy were perfectly adorable and the perfect pair of opposites. While Dotty is spirited and enjoys exercising her right to rebel (even if it involves a “T-R-E-A-T”), Sandy proves every day that a gluttonous, red-haired “hunting” dog will only leave her bed for cuddles and food. And that’s no exaggeration.

When Oliver lost two of her beloved Great Danes nine years ago, we gave Dotty to her. Though separated by distance, Dotty and Sandy still enjoyed playdates together, and each found a devoted human best friend. In Sandy’s case, she is the cherished emotional support animal for my little brother, JD.

Recently, Sandy faced life-threatening health challenges that brought immense stress to our family. The thought of losing her was devastating. But Oliver and her team stepped in when Sandy’s health declined, working tirelessly to stabilize her and give her the best possible care.

It is thanks to Oliver, her team, and God’s grace that Sandy pulled through. She was chosen as the Arwen Fund’s sponsored pet—a tradition that began with clients Mollie and Bruce Davis. Inspired by their love for their own pets, the fund provides financial support to families whose animals need extra medical care. The Arwen Fund embodies Oliver Animal Hospital’s philosophy that veterinary medicine is about more than treatments; it’s about compassion, community, and stepping in when it matters most.

Oliver’s impact on my family has been profound. Because of her dedication, my brother still has his loyal companion by his side.

I believe the truest form of kindness is offering your gifts and expertise selflessly, with nothing to gain. Oliver embodies that kindness. She is bold, confident, selfless, and brilliant in her field.

“I have loved animals for as long as I can remember, and becoming a veterinarian felt less like a career choice and more like a calling,” Oliver says. “I have realized how deeply I value the relationships I have created through caring for my clients’ pets. Those connections are truly the heart of this profession for me.”

Oliver continues to inspire and support our community, not just through her medical care but through initiatives like the Arwen Fund and current projects supporting the Central Texas Food Bank. Her compassion strengthens the bond between pets, families, and community, reminding us all that kindness has the power to change lives. Our dogs, cats, and families are truly blessed to have her.
