For Kristy Bleau, service isn’t just a calling. It’s a lifeline. A 911 dispatch supervisor and serving in a new role as the mayor of Lake Dallas, Kristy once battled debilitating depression. She found her way forward by pouring into others, starting with small community projects on social media. Those efforts grew so quickly that four years ago she founded Lake Cities Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families in the Lake Cities community.

Today, Lake Cities Hope runs eight programs year-round, powered by the generosity of citizens and guided by a dedicated board, including Kelly Pickens and Jamie Spear. Kristy credits their leadership, and the support of community partners, for helping the nonprofit grow. Rachel Fitzpatrick also takes a lead role in holiday programming, ensuring every detail runs smoothly.

From backpack drives that outfit children with new shoes and supplies, to luncheons that bring hundreds of seniors together for a holiday meal, the mission is simple: no neighbor should feel forgotten.

This December, their signature initiative, Operation Christmas Hope, pairs with Mission Turkey to brighten the holidays. Local retailers like Linnybird Bake Shop, Corinth Veterinary Clinic, and area dealerships host “giving trees,” where shoppers can pull tags listing the wants and needs of children who live in or attend school in Lake Cities. Each participating family also receives a Thanksgiving meal box, distributed in partnership with local churches. Last year alone, the program served more than 300 kids and 100 families.

For Kristy, the work is deeply personal. “I just saw a need and tried to fill it,” she says. “We had it in our hearts to create something lasting for Lake Cities. We are just organizers. It’s the community that always shows up.”
