Let’s Toast To Wine And Hope

The Prosper Wine House: How Love For Wine And Community Birthed Gathering Spot In Downtown Prosper

In the heart of downtown Prosper, there's a place where wine lovers and curious newcomers can gather and enjoy a great glass of wine. Prosper Wine House, started by Mike and Trina Lopez, is more than just a spot to drink wine—frequent guests indicate it's a place that reflects their passion for wine, their love for Texas and their desire to bring people together in a friendly, welcoming setting.

The Lopez's journey to opening Prosper Wine House began with their mutual love for wine, particularly the unique flavors and characteristics of Texas wine country. After moving to Prosper to be closer to their granddaughter, the couple says they envisioned creating a gathering place where people could enjoy boutique wines in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Prosper Wine House is not just another wine venue; it's a celebration of small, family-owned wineries that often go unnoticed in the larger wine market. "We primarily showcase boutique, family-owned wineries that have little representation but offer great quality and value," explains Matt Hanby, general manager of Prosper Wine House.

Matt shares that one of the remarkable aspects of Prosper Wine House is its ability to cater to both seasoned wine connoisseurs and those new to wine tasting. "We have fun with wine and understand that people come with different levels of experience and expectations," Matt notes, adding that the approachable menu, with its clear descriptions and varied price points, ensures that everyone can find something they enjoy.

When it comes to wine, Prosper Wine House takes pride in offering a diverse and ever-evolving selection.

"We have a wide range of styles, primarily from Texas, California, Washington and Oregon," Matt says. "We're constantly on the lookout for the next fun, great-value wine to add to our list."

Matt explains this commitment to variety is reflected in the venue's wine flights, which rotate every few months and often feature creative themes. For example, a recent flight compared wines from Texas and California, while another focused on summertime sips. He says Prosper Wine House also plans to roll out an all-blends flight, showcasing a mix of red and white blends that promise to intrigue and delight wine lovers.

For those interested in deepening their wine knowledge, Prosper Wine House professionals offer educational classes that explore different wine regions and styles. Meanwhile, a small selection of beer, seltzers and wine slushies caters to those who may not yet consider themselves wine aficionados.

The ambiance at Prosper Wine House is as thoughtfully curated as its wine selection. Housed in a large, industrial-style building with brick walls and multi-use rooms, the building at 209 W. Broadway St., features two stories of distinctive spaces designed to enhance the wine-tasting experience, from intimate lounges to lively rooftop patios. The event center, a 1,600-square-foot space that can accommodate up to 120 guests, is perfect for larger gatherings, while the upstairs indoor/outdoor area, with its folding glass wall and private patio, offers a more intimate setting. They also provide live music during select dates.

"The indoor/outdoor upstairs area is my favorite spot in the building," Matt shares. "Especially at sunset, when the views of the nearby silos and Town Hall building are simply breathtaking."

As Prosper Wine House continues to grow, Matt and his team are excited about the future. A new partnership with Emporium Pies is just one of the many initiatives in the works, with plans to add a pie and dessert wine flight to the menu in the coming weeks. "The possibilities for events here are endless," states Matt.

Whether one calls Prosper home or is simply visiting, a stop at Prosper Wine House assures an enriched understanding of winemaking and the joy of savoring a quality bottle in the company of others. “We're proud to be a part of the town of Prosper and support local business,” states Matt. “We're always open to new partnerships and ideas, with a focus on bringing great events to the people of Prosper and surrounding areas.”
