If you’ve never met Judson Nowotny with NB Roofing and Construction, you should. With over a decade in the industry, NB Roofing strives to install a roof that will outlast your lifetime. Jud is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, and will always give you the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to what your roof needs. Sitting down with Jud, I saw his passion for helping people, whether they need a new roof or help navigating the tricky roof insurance waters.

What do you look for when recommending a roof repair versus replacement?

The age of the roof and the amount of damage. Sometimes you can have one shingle blown off, but the roof is too old and too brittle to where you can't do a repair. But you're going to see the damage from the ground. If it can't be repaired, you're going to be doing more damage to the shingles around the one that is damaged or blown off to get a new one in there.

What advice would you give New Braunfels home or business owners?

Do the research. Insurance has instilled it in people's brains that they need to get three estimates or more, which is complete nonsense. But they need to do their research on a company and ask them what type of materials they are putting on your roof.

You've got to ask them, what are you putting on my roof, as far as what type of underlayment? Are you going all the way down to the wooden decking? I've run into six layers of felt underneath a shingle. So that means that they've roofed that house six times without ever looking at the wood underneath it.

What, would you say, is the NB Roofing difference?

I'm going to give you a 50-year warranty on your roof because that's the roof that I'm going to put on. I'm not going to go try to figure out what shingle is cheaper here, what shingle is cheaper there. As a certified contractor with GAF, I'm required to use three or more of this company's products to give you a 50-year warranty. If something defaults on that roof, GAF comes back, and the repair is going to be paid for. It's not me putting a warranty on it. It's the company that's been around forever.
