Color outside the lines. Think outside the box. These are the typical directives we hear when a new level of creativity is required for any number of projects. But as Beau Beck, president of Boulder’s Elton R Construction, will tell you, sometimes it’s with a few restrictions in place that design creativity is truly tested.
Case in point? One recent Boulder home remodel undertaken by the ERC team.
“We had previously done a major remodel in this house focused on the main level kitchen,” says Beck. “In this second phase, the goal was to bring the rest of the house to the same modern aesthetic and exquisite level of design that we’d achieved with the first remodeling project.”
The ERC team collaborated with Dawn Wilkinson, CEO, and president of Denver’s Six Walls Interior Design, to develop the artistic vision for the project and follow that vision through to execution.
The heightened standard of consistency in style and design meant overhauling a number of spaces within the home, to the tune of six bathrooms (including the master bathroom suite), one powder room and the home’s basement bar area. Honoring the house’s existing bones and floor plan, the team breathed new life into each of these spaces without making any structural changes to the home. Through the use of unique materials, colors and mirrors to add light and perceived space to each room, the team both maximized the home’s space and elevated each room to peak modern design.
Beginning with the basement bar area, the team drew inspiration from the exclusive, yet cozy feel of classic speakeasy cocktail bars. Dark and light materials are expertly balanced to draw you in while amplifying available light and increasing the feeling of ample space. The dark midnight stain cabinetry is offset with the antique glass tile backsplash with lit floating shelves and a granite waterfall bar edge.
Such striking details were also deployed in the bathroom remodels, where the team transitioned each space to reflect a cooler, more modern palette through new fixtures and original tile work. The master bath suite was similarly given a sleek, modern overhaul with a new soaking tub, overhead chandelier, steam shower, backlit floating mirrors, heated towel bar, and dramatic radiant heated floor tiles, elevating the luxury of the space to spa-worthy levels.
The icing on this remodeling cake? A built-in armoire with retractable glass mirrored doors at the entrance of the master bedroom suite that contains a built-in Miele espresso machine and bar refrigerator.
Not only did the team achieve this remodel without making any structural changes to the home, but they likewise worked around the lives of the homeowners, who were able to stay in the home with minimal disruptions throughout the entire remodeling process.
“In a sense, we really had to stay ‘inside the lines’ with this project,” says Beck. “We were honored that these homeowners entrusted us with this second phase of renovation, and we feel this work really elevates the look and feel of the whole home.”
