Great reasons to go to the pool this summer

Don't forget to visit our local community pools

Summer and swimming pools go hand in hand and here are some great reasons why going to the pool in the summer is so great!

Swimming is great exercise. You get to have fun with your family and friends or make new friends by taking a swimming class to be safe for the summer. Swimming has a "low impact" on the body and the health benefits include, mobility, flexibility, and physical strength just to name a few. Being around a pool and water not only relaxes the body, but also the mind and studies show that regular aerobic exercise, like swimming, improves your sleep quality.

To make things even better our local community pools are affordable and offer discounted rates for memberships. So don't miss out on the three local community pools that the City of Gainesville owns and operates: The Dwight H. Hunter Pool (Northeast Pool),  H. Spurgeon Cherry Pool (formally Westside Pool, recently reopened) and Mickle Pool.

Pool passes, valid for six months, are available and are good at all three pool locations. To purchase a pass and learn pool hours, call the City of Gainesville Parks & Recreation at 352-334-5067, Mon.–Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
