Denver’s got its own special vibe with its blue skies and panoramic views of the mountains. It’s also teeming with small businesses and one-of-a-kind hot spots, which is part of the reason why we all love it so much. You could live here for years and still discover hot spots on the regular. But for this issue, we’ve done the legwork for you. Here are a few hidden gems worth checking out.

Coffee shops that nail that good juju vibe

Wonder Press @ 1540 Platte Street
This little gem just opened last month in the Platte Fifteen and serves up incredible lattes, 100% organic, cold-pressed juice, wellness shots and nut milk. (Not to mention nutritious bone broth, smoothies, baked goods and quick bites.) Their Community Supported Restaurant (CSR) model allows community members to invest in Wonder (and get 15% back in credit to spend at Wonder) by purchasing memberships at the beginning of the year).

Co-owner Robyn says, “We try to approach every aspect of our business with as much integrity, honesty and heart as we possibly can. Our mission is to help our guests improve their health while also having a positive impact on the environment. All of our recipes—including juice, broths, smoothies and drinks from our coffee bar—are made with fresh, real ingredients and help our customers incorporate nutritious superfoods into their diets.”

Crema Coffehouse @ 2862 Larmier St., Denver
For a quick pick me up while wandering around the Rino District, pop in the ever-so-cool Crema, which serves everything amazing under the sun: espresso, chai, tea, baked goods and burritos. Crema offers a great selection of craft coffee beans featuring roasters across the nation including some of their favorite local roasters.

Takeout that’s easy on the planet
Somebody People offers customers the choice of getting takeout in World Centric compostable containers or in reusable tiffins, which are sold at the restaurant and an even eco-friendly option. When ordering for the second time, users can indicate if they have a tiffin to exchange, currently about 40% of takeout orders are through its exchange program. Meals are then served in a fresh tiffin while the one brought in goes into the commercial dishwasher for a high-powered cleaning.
