Local Yocal Bar

A Cocktail Destination

Well, it is that time of year when we all want to see the year-end in celebration. There may be no better place to do that than the bar inside the Local Yocal BBQ & Grill. Matt Hamilton has done it again by allowing his bar’s Manager, Matt Walker, and Assistant Manager, Conner Hargesheimer, freedom to make the bar, not just a destination, but an exploration into taste.

“I wanted to create a bar where you feel comfy and then we get you out of your ‘comfort zone’, says Matt Hamilton. And you can tell both they and their customers love it. You may come here to enjoy your favorite drink but expect to be challenged to try something just a little different. And, if you don’t like it, you don’t pay for it. However, you may just find that their creativity in slightly altering ingredients in your favorite drink could just create a new favorite!

And don’t expect to come in, order your favorite Jack Daniels concoction. The bar here has gained so much notoriety within the liquor industry that they get the best and newest of everything, even when it is limited in production and hard to find anywhere else. So, trust your bartender here and if they ask you to try something a little different, simply open your mind and expand your horizons— it’s one of their goals!

Matt Walker joined the bar last year on Black Friday after having served for 17 years in some of the nicest bars in the DFW area. He loves becoming familiar with the customers and making new friends. He also really appreciates upper management's support in what they are doing.

There may be other, smaller boutique bars that offer large selections, but here, you not only can find the best but there are 22 seats! And if you can’t find some high-end products elsewhere, like Blanton’s (the original single barrel whiskey) or Weller’s Full Proof, come have a seat. They will have it when there are waiting lists at liquor stores. Or try one of their other single barrel whiskeys. The lower the number, the older the barrel, so you may explore some great new tastes as the oak seeps into the whiskey for a longer period.

The bar also offers flask wine. Yes, flask wine—wine as a draft. It offers both economy and ecology. Not only does it keep the flavor better than a bottle that’s been opened, but it replaces 22 glass bottles, or worse, multiple cartons, that require recycling.

So, come cozy up to this beautiful bar in this great setting just off Historic Downtown McKinney at 350 E. Louisiana St., with onsite parking and expect to try something unique, something new, but mainly, due to this talented crew and the resources they’ve been given, something fantastic!
