Looking Back, Moving Forward

Wisdom from experience—four women write letters to their younger selves, offering lessons in resilience, growth, and self-love.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons we wish we had known earlier. If you could go back and give your younger self advice, what would you say? Four incredible women took a moment to reflect on their journeys, writing heartfelt letters to the girls they once were. Through wisdom, resilience, and self-discovery, they share the lessons that shaped them, offering inspiration for anyone navigating their own path.

Dear Younger Me,

Reflecting back on my mindset as a young adult, I remember the excitement of chasing dreams and exploring the world ahead, but I also remember the pressure of meeting expectations and achieving perceived milestones.

If I could offer advice to my younger self, it would be this: enjoy the journey—have fun, and don’t be afraid to look ridiculous doing it! Move forward with quiet confidence in your abilities and resist the urge to compare yourself to others. We each have our own path, and that’s what makes it uniquely perfect. Surround yourself with kind, driven people who will help you celebrate your accomplishments and learn to navigate life’s challenges.

Above all, prioritize your well-being—take care of your body and mind, because they are the foundation for everything else. Finally, don’t rush through life’s stages—embrace each phase for the lessons it offers and the character it helps you build. It’s through these experiences—especially the “failures”—that we truly grow. And as long as we’re growing, we’ll always remain young at heart.

Dear Younger Me,

I know life has been incredibly hard, and the things you've witnessed — the violence, the struggles — feel like they’ll define you. But I want you to know they won’t. Yes, losing Mom at such a young age left a deep scar, but it also ignited something within you. It pushed you further than you ever imagined, revealing the strength and resilience you carry.

Remember this: blood is not always thicker than water, and setting boundaries is not only okay, but necessary. You have every right to protect your peace, and not everyone who shares your blood will treat you with the love and respect you deserve. Be patient with yourself because your journey is unique. It won't look like anyone else’s, and that’s perfectly okay.

Things happen for a reason, even if you can’t always see it in the moment. Don't ever settle for less than what you know you deserve. The right opportunities, the right people, and the right future are out there, waiting for you. Keep pushing forward, even on the hardest days. Never give up and always fight for yourself.

You are worthy. You are capable. And you are loved, no matter what.

With love,

Dear Younger Me,

I know life feels overwhelming right now. You’re juggling responsibilities, raising a child on your own, and wondering if you’ll ever catch a break. But I want you to know—you are stronger than you think.

There will be days when exhaustion sets in, and doubt creeps into your mind. Push through. Every late night, every sacrifice, every tear—it’s all shaping you into the woman you’re destined to become. You will earn your Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice, proving to yourself and the world that your dreams are worth chasing. You will build a career as a successful realtor by helping others create generational wealth.

There will be challenges but never let them define you. Instead, let them refine you. Believe in yourself, even when no one else does. Keep moving forward, one step at a time, because your future is greater than your past.

One day, you’ll look back with pride, not just for surviving, but for thriving. And you’ll inspire other women to do the same. You are unstoppable. You are resilient. Keep going.

So, hold your head high, keep going, and never forget—you are destined for success.

With love and strength,

Dear Younger Me,

Life presents many opportunities to worry and fret. Don’t! Soon enough, you will reflect on your daily struggles and realize how easily they have been resolved.

While details frequently seem complex, life is simple.

Trust most people, and they will know they can trust you. Those who don’t show you trust probably are not trustworthy themselves.

Always do business with good people so that you can relax. Don’t waste time watching your back when you can be looking at opportunities ahead.

Success = Do more… more than your competitors, more than your colleagues, simply MORE!

Happiness = Do more…for your family, your coworkers, your friends, and yourself…simply MORE!

Stay fluid. Longevity is not born through stubbornness, but by accepting change. Businesses need to be updated frequently. While it takes energy and may seem like you start over every five to seven years, it paves the road to decades of success.

The clock is ticking; take action. Your initiatives need not be perfect out of the gate. You can’t perfect something that hasn’t started.

Love everyone; you will receive more back than you give.

Most of all…take a deep breath and enjoy the ride.

With love,

Future Lynn
