Among 18 acres that Chesterfield officials purchased several years ago from the Eberwein family to develop a community park are 2 acres devoted to a dog park. Located at 1627 Old Baxter Road, the dog park allows pups to explore the many facets of the wonderful outdoors.
This park remains named after the Eberwein family, who first settled in Chesterfield more than 100 years ago.
The Eberwein Dog Park is open to Chesterfield residents only, and participating dogs must be registered at Chesterfield City Hall with their own accompanying dog tag. Tags are $30. To register a dog, one needs to show documentation that the dog has been spayed or neutered, proof of residency and rabies records for each dog.
This park has separate areas for small and large dogs. Dogs younger than 4 months are not allowed in the park, however.
To preserve the history, character and charm of the site, Eberwein Park was designed as a passive community park with a farm-like theme, including preserving the red barn, which originally was constructed in the early 1900s.
This park also includes trails, public art, a community garden, a playground, picnic benches, a native prairie garden and restrooms.

Happy Hounds Playground, a new 10-acre membership-based dog park, has popped up in Wildwood. It's become a gathering place for dogs to run, play, splash, swim, exercise and socialize, all with the freedom of being off-leash. It's open dawn to dusk year-round.
Dogs must be at least 6 months old as well as spayed or neutered. To register dogs, owners must show vaccinations proof of rabies, bordetella and DHLLP.
Happy Hounds Playground is completely fenced-in and includes a nature trail. It has both a small and large dog area along with playground equipment.
Its swimming pond has a beach area and a regulation-size dock for dock diving. There also are splash pads for both small and large dogs to cool off.
Washing stations to clean dog paws before going home keeps everyone happier.
Happy Hounds Playground managers also organize breed playdates for similar sizes, play styles and energy levels.
