Love After 50

Chemistry, creativity and an open mind may help you find your next valentine.

Are you 50 years old-plus and looking for a way to meet new people? Online apps and websites can be exhausting, with messaging leading to lackluster results.

So, what’s next? First, know there’s hope and possibility galore!

Look at options for meeting singles. In person.

“Get out of the pen pal stage and start meeting other singles your age range in person with Eight at Eight Dinner Club,” says matchmaker Emily Dodge. The dinner club sets up four single women and four single men at dinner at 8 p.m. in Roswell and surrounding areas. Eight at Eight matches the tables on age range and similar stages of life. It’s just a dinner party where you can meet new singles and maybe find your next relationship. If you are looking for a tailored way to meet your match, look into their sister company One on One Matchmaking.

Will a dinner club work for you? “The more fun you have that night, the more fun the others will have! Your dinner companions will naturally be drawn to you since you are positive, talkative, and a good listener,” says Dodge.

And, of course, there’s that chemistry. “It’s always nice to have a first date where there is an immediate attraction to the person you are meeting! Then, it's about how well the conversation goes and if there is an initial spark,” says Roswell City Lifestyle’s senior marketing manager Karyn Slovin. “Not wanting the first date to end is a good sign of a good first date!”

Supper clubs, online sites and apps are all options for finding that first date. “Other than online dating, it seems like the only way is if you are lucky enough to have a friend introduce you to someone that they think you might match well with,” says Karyn.

Again, it’s all about relationships. And, for Karyn, she is looking for a man who shares some common interests. “Someone energetic, honest, loyal and yes, someone with whom I have great chemistry!”

Or, keep your eyes open on social media and you might find an inspired conversation with an old friend.

Julie Martel Wojenski and Wayne Albright met just out of high school in New Jersey and then again two decades later. They now run a successful photography business together here in Roswell. What makes love later in life so special?

“It's appreciating the second chance we were given. When we are young, we sometimes fail to understand the gift that is standing right in front of us. Also because we have a history together, there are no surprises. We completely love, support, and respect our differences,” says Julie, a former model and retail manager, who now handles scheduling, staging, and logistics for Albright Photography. “The gap of our missed time apart has now given us much to talk about. We believe God nudged us together at this time in our lives and that is more than good enough for us! We are so looking forward to the rest of our story of choosing happiness together!”

May we all find love and understanding during this magical month of February!
