Revamping your closet can be a game-changer, turning chaos into a stylish sanctuary. In a Grove City golf community, homeowners who regretted their cramped master area since 2013 have achieved just that. Thanks to the expertise of designer Samantha Ferris and her team from J.S. Brown & Co., their closet now boasts a stunning transformation, nearly doubling in size.
J.S. Brown & Co. is known for creating beautiful, functional spaces, with Samantha leading the team with her extensive background in space planning and interior architecture. "I redecorated my room multiple times as a teenager and always had a passion for design," she recalls. "Learning about space planning and interior architecture hooked me."
What she loves most about the design process is adapting to her clients' needs. "Sometimes your style aligns with your clients, and sometimes their tastes are completely opposite," she explains. The recent Grove City project allowed Samantha to explore new materials and fixtures, creating unique design features that matched her clients' tastes.
From Cluttered to Classy
The initial closet was a mere 90 square feet, divided into two small spaces off the bathroom. The bedroom itself was lacking any design features that could give it a "wow" factor. Samantha and her team changed all of that by expanding the closet into a spacious 165 square feet.
"The feature wall behind the bed with bookmatched faux marble panels, cove lighting and modern light fixtures is my favorite part of this project," Samantha shares.
And, this transformation didn't stop at the closet—it included a full dressing room that beautifully opens through double mirrored pocket doors into the expansive master closet.
Blending Functionality and Beauty
If you're thinking of starting a closet remodel, Samantha emphasizes that understanding your needs is critical. "Do you have a large shoe collection? How much hanging space will you require? Is an island or drawers important?" she explains.
This tailored approach ensures both functionality and aesthetics are prioritized. For this particular project, key changes included a vanity space with an LED mirror and floor-to-ceiling wardrobes for "his and hers" areas.
"The mirrored pocket doors reflect the starburst chandelier, making the hall feel open and light," Samantha notes.
Top Closet Tips
Samantha offers several practical tips for those looking to enhance their own closet spaces:
-
Assess Storage Priorities: "Identify what's most important for storage and functionality," she advises. If adding space isn't possible, you can consider a closet design service for innovative solutions.
-
Maximize Vertical Space: "Place shoes on shelves six inches from the floor, and store folded sweaters on higher shelves," Samantha says. "Using vertical space effectively can greatly enhance storage capacity."
-
Opt for Custom Solutions: "Experts can help you visualize solutions you hadn’t considered," Samantha says, including providing space-saving units tailored to exactly what you're looking for.
If you're inspired by Samantha's insights, fall is a great time to rethink your closet space as that "back to school" feeling of fresh starts and clean slates settles in.
