As the global pandemic continues, the negative impact can be felt locally here in McKinney. Many people have found themselves out of a job and unable to provide for their families. Women and children in at-risk situations are in even greater danger as the stress of an uncertain future plays out in the form of domestic violence on the homefront. With little avenue for escape, many are trapped in a seemingly hopeless situation. But there is something that can be done, and you can be a part of bringing help and hope for these victims.
The Love Life Foundation was co-founded by McKinney Mayor George Fuller and wife Maylee Thomas-Fuller. Maylee experienced an abusive situation when she was young and determined to speak out against abuse and help victims when she grew up. Founded almost 30 years ago, Love Life exists to break the cycle of abuse by promoting and supporting those agencies who provide valuable aid, refuge, and hope to these innocent victims. Maylee says that it's essential to be compassionate about the plight of others and passionate about giving back.
Love Life helps at-risk women and children in various ways, including hosting community events and outreaches, feeding and clothing the homeless, and supporting community organizations. Unfortunately, due to the COVID restrictions, Love Life's much-needed fundraising has come to a halt. The impact COVID has had on non-profit organizations and, by extension, the people they serve has devastating consequences for the most vulnerable in our community. But you can make a difference now and change the narrative.
Online financial donations are always accepted through the Love Life Foundation website. You can also shop at the Love Life Market located in the Guitar Sanctuary in Adriatica. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this unique boutique boasts a variety of the latest fashions and gifts. You will find everything from clothing, to jewelry, coffee mugs, candles, and more. If you're not sure what to purchase, store manager Kate Neely is ready to help by putting together a gift bag selection for you. Proceeds from items purchased in the boutique go to benefit organizations such as Genesis Women's Shelter, Rainbow Room Dallas, City Church McKinney, Children's Medical Center, Collin County Children's Advocacy Center, The Samaritan Inn, CASA, Hope's Door, and Grace to Change.
Another way to show support is coming up on September 19. Love Life is hosting Foodstock, which is an opportunity for the community to stock the local food bank. You can drop off canned goods at the McKinney Volkswagon dealership located at 3600 S Central Expy, McKinney, from 10am-12pm.
Love Life will also host Breakfast with Santa as always in December. Stay tuned for the details on this event as it gets closer to the date.
