Home show season is here, and for many homeowners it marks the start of big plans: updating a bathroom, refreshing a kitchen, or investing in new appliances and fixtures. While finishes and features get most of the attention, one of the smartest ways to protect those investments often goes overlooked: better water.

Scale, corrosion and buildup cost homeowners way more than prevention. Hard water can shorten the life of plumbing, stain surfaces and reduce the efficiency of appliances you’ve just spent good money on.

Choosing a Kinetico® system helps safeguard your home and your upgrades. And because Kinetico is American-made and backed by old-fashioned standards, you’re doing more than improving your water. You’re investing in quality you can trust for decades to come.

Smart questions your faucet wishes you’d ask us at an upcoming home show

  1. Is hard water really that big of a deal? Yes. Hard water can cost homeowners hundreds of dollars each year due to increased soap and detergent use, mineral buildup on faucets and fixtures, and added wear and tear on appliances and plumbing.

  2. If my water is clear and tastes fine, doesn’t that mean it’s clean? Not necessarily. Taste and clarity aren’t reliable indicators of water safety. Some harmful contaminants are microscopic, and have no color, odor or unpleasant taste. These may include PFAs, lead, nitrates, arsenic, bacteria and microplastics.

  3. Do I need water treatment if my city already treats my water? Municipal water treatment focuses on basic disinfection. It doesn’t necessarily address hardness, taste, odor or many of the emerging contaminants that can affect your home’s water supply.

  4. Do I need water treatment if I’m using well water? Isn’t well water naturally pure? Well water can contain iron, manganese, arsenic, bacteria, hardness minerals, agricultural runoff and tannins. Because wells are not regulated, testing and treatment are especially important.

  5. Are DIY water testing kits accurate? At-home kits are fine for a general snapshot. Professional water testing is far more accurate, especially when evaluating health-related contaminants.

  6. How often should I get my water tested? Water tables can change during very wet or dry periods. When that happens, it’s smart to re-test both your softener and your water because contaminant concentrations may change. Haferman provides a water test at every service call to monitor your water and system.

  7. Is a Kinetico water system a one-time installation? Kinetico systems are built to deliver 20 years or more of reliable performance. As with any high-quality system, they require routine maintenance, such as filter replacements, to continue working at their best.

  8. How is Kinetico an example of American ingenuity? Kinetico is the only water treatment company that still does all of its manufacturing within the U.S., in Newbury, Ohio. The company also has a long history of innovation. In a 1977 “Popular Science” article, Ohio engineers William C. Prior and James W. Kewley were recognized for creating Kinetico’s fully automated, non-electric water softener that regenerates only when needed, saving water and energy.

  9. How does Haferman Water Conditioning uphold good, old-fashioned American business values? We believe people make the difference, and that starts with your first interaction with us. When you call Haferman, a real person answers every time. You may speak with customer service, sales or even someone in upper management. If they can’t help you immediately, they’ll connect you with the right person. Even our website inquiries are answered by our sales team, not AI, often after hours. That’s the kind of personal service we believe still matters.
