Jamie Lackey of Helping Mamas celebrates 7 years of supporting young families

Helping Mamas CEO, Jamie Lackey knows this year may present as many challenges as last. But, after founding an organization whose mission from the beginning has been to connect moms and families in need with essential baby supplies and other necessary childcare products, she’s no stranger to hard work

With nearly 20 years of social work experience, Jamie saw first-hand that the mothers she served were washing disposable diapers. Realizing they could not afford the basic necessities to care for their babies and children, she took a leap of faith and founded Helping Mamas in 2014 as the sole baby supply bank in the state.

“Seeing how many moms in our community have to decide between putting food on the table or buying clean diapers for their children is a constant reminder of how important our work here is,” said Lackey. “But we couldn’t do this hard work without our great partners in the community.”

Even today, the numbers remain staggering: one in three moms cannot afford diapers in Georgia. Since Covid-19 began, the need for baby supplies has skyrocketed, and the number of moms in need remains staggering. Helping Mamas served over 56,000 individuals last year alone by distributing over 1.6 million essential baby supplies, 809,942 diapers, 736,176 period products, 11,742 wipes and 66,976 clothes to families in need.

Alpharetta businesses have always stepped up for Helping Mamas, enabling Lackey to continue to do the good work of serving moms in the community. Businesses like Kendra Scott, Kids ‘R’ Kids, Atlanta Wills and Trust and Valor Brands supporting them through donations and giveback days.
