Paris. London. New York. Tokyo. Oskaloosa. These are the capitals of the interior design world, whose visionaries dream up life’s thrillingest settings. Hire any one of them and stand back in awe as they seemingly effortlessly – click – put the whole room together.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t need an interior designer. I elevated my living space to perfection the same day I discovered the mall kiosk that sells those weird lenticular posters which change depending on which angle they’re viewed from.
You, on the other hand, almost certainly stand to gain from hiring an interior designer who hails from one of the aforementioned capitals of their industry. As fortune would have it, Sara Trosen offers her services right here in Eden Prairie.
“I grew up in a very small town in Iowa,” said Sara Trosen. “Not exactly the design capital of the world, if I’m being honest. I didn’t even know interior design could be a profession until college, when I discovered The Discovery Channel.”
The cathode ray tube lighted Sara’s path forward. She fell in love with the art and science of indoor adornment, and sensed a great talent for it welling up within her. Thus did she graduate from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a major in interior design and minor in construction management, work as an assistant and then a designer at Gabberts, join The Sitting Room design studio and boutique in Excelsior, and found Madison House Interiors in 2013.
“After having my three kids, it was finally time to realize my dream of becoming my own boss,” said Sara. “There was never any option for me but to remain an interior designer. It’s just the way my brain works. It’s also what gives me the greatest contentment. To study a room or an entire home, and understand its residents’ hopes for it and their lifestyles, and visualize how it would look best, and bring that ideal to life? I do it all so naturally that I genuinely believe I was born for it.”
And do it all, Sara does. Whether you enlist Madison House Interiors for a kitchen or bathroom redesign, a new plan for any number of rooms, or full-service white-glove interior design, it all begins with a brief consultation.
“We’ll speak over the phone and then again in person – at your home, of course,” explained Sara. “We’ll go over all the details together: what works, what doesn’t, what you might want to keep, who’s using the space, and for what, and how? Do you have dogs; and if so, what is your stance on dogs on the furniture? I’m on an exhaustive fact-finding mission because my goal is to create living space you’ll truly love living in.
“From there, it’s straight to the drawing board. I create floor plans and faithful 3D renderings, list out all the furniture and decor your dream space would have, and assemble fabric swatches and other samples to help illustrate my vision. If the project requires any labor (an electrician to install new lights, or a paperhanger, for example), then I’ll include that cost in the proposal as well.”
Once you’ve given said proposal your blessing – or the few changes it needed to achieve absolute perfection – it’s on.
“We’ll do it all in one fell swoop,” said Sara. “One big day (or maybe one big day and one not-so-big day if we’re reimagining your whole home) is all I need to change your perception of your space forever.
“The reaction I’m going for is awestruck. In an instant, I want you to be blown away by my finely honed sense of functionality and fashion; that timeless, deceptively effortless style that has won Madison House Interiors so many lifelong clients.”
