As a former teacher, I know the importance of building relationships. Kids in a classroom want desperately to make connections with the teacher and build relationships with their peers. We are all just grown-up first graders. Building relationships is good for the heart, mind and soul. Here are some ways to make in-person connections with real, live people.
The Newly Trending Game
Mahjong has made a huge comeback and it’s not just for seniors. Players of all ages are enjoying the fun, competition and brain workout all included with the pretty pink tiles. The Facebook page “Mahjong Community” is a great place to start getting connected with a group and a helpful platform for questions like ”Where can I find a group or instructor in the DFW area?” The Town of Flower Mound website offers a line-up of fun under “Seniors in Motion” including Mahjong lessons every Thursday at 1:00pm.
Nine-course Omakase
“Food is a love language,” says Chef Brad Green. He has been hosting and preparing communal dining experiences in his Argyle home for over six years. Beginning with complimentary cocktails and charcuterie, the Greens will guide guests through a nine-course, completely homemade, omakase (up to the chef) menu that will be a culinary experience not to be forgotten. Visit their website at www.eatatfam.com to schedule amazing fun and food with a group in their home or yours.
Quilt Guild
Quilting is a beautiful way to connect while working with your hands. Land O’Lakes Quilt Guild has a Facebook page that makes me want to be a quilter, too! Not only are the quilts true works of art, but the people look so happy to be a part of the group. You can also visit Quilt Country in Lewisville for all your quilting supplies and inquire about classes for all quilting levels.
For the Ladies
The Lantana Ladies League is all about connecting with others and you do not have to live in Lantana to become a member of the club. Visiting the website can give you information about all kinds of SIGs - Special Interest Groups - from brunch, to Bibles, to bunco, to break rooms. They truly have something for everyone and every interest. Even Wining Women - I see what you did there.
If your best friends converse with you on a screen, it’s time to get out there and look at the live faces of fun and laughter. Call your bestie and find a group. The benefits will just happen.
