Make It Durable, Make It Different

The Perfect Flooring Solution for Stylish Interiors

Flooring is a major part of any home and living space. From children crawling around to a family game of Twister or a retiree using assistive walking devices, home flooring supports every step at home. Sometimes flooring obviously needs a change, such as after an appliance flood. Other times, flooring simply becomes outdated as colors and styles shift. Choosing flooring is a big decision, both because of how visible it is throughout the home and its pricing. Natalie Smith, a third-generation manager of Smitty’s Floor Coverings in Denton, knows exactly how to help her clients find the right flooring.

Her line of questioning helps her find the perfect blend of affordability, durability, and style to ensure families get what they need for their home. “Do you have kids? Do you have animals? Is this going to be your forever house, or is this just the house that you're going to stay in for five years? With these answers, I can assess what is going to be their best option,” she explains.

For most people, the primary deciding factor when choosing flooring is durability. For that, Natalie points to her favorite flooring. “If you install luxury vinyl plank flooring, depending on the grade of it, it should last 20 plus years,” says Natalie. In fact, luxury vinyl plank flooring is what she has in her own home.

But durability isn’t always the primary deciding factor. For some, it's all about the stylistic impact. These days, Natalie is seeing a trend of fun, patterned carpet in surprising areas.

Children’s rooms are an obvious choice for these whimsical carpets. With pink, glittery carpets and dark, starry night floor coverings, kids can enjoy a space that reflects their personality. As a bonus, these carpets are easy to maintain thanks to their stain-resistant and durable fibers.

Kids aren’t the only ones who get to enjoy festive carpeting! Women with large dressing-room style closets are opting for glittery styles or leopard-print carpets that elevate the space and bring joy to what can be a utilitarian part of the day.

Natalie’s favorite place to put a unique carpet? The staircase. “As soon as you walk in the door, there is usually a staircase that is the focal point. But you don't want Plain Jane carpet on it. You want something that will stand out and pop.”

Whether choosing luxury vinyl planks or fun, patterned carpet, the nearly 70-year-old establishment, originally founded by Natalie’s grandfather, Mansell "Smitty" Smith, is ready to help your home exude comfort and style.
