Spoonful of Sweet

Cotton Blossom Caramel: Gourmet Caramels, Sauces and Confections

Located in a whimsical cottage nestled amongst the pines of the Black Forest is perhaps the cutest little sweet shoppe in Colorado. Specializing in a variety of gourmet caramels, sauces, and confections, Cotton Blossom Caramel Boutique is a perfect spot to find a delicious treat.

Lessons from Grandma

Owner and confectioner Liz Deen spent summers as a child at the family farm in rural Nebraska. During these summers, Deen soaked up knowledge, skills, and fond memories with her grandma. She didn’t know it then, but those precious lessons would prove invaluable later in life.

“She taught me how to cook, bake, sew, and most of all… how to do it with love! One of my favorite things we made together was caramel,” Deen says.

Collaboration is Key

On a trip to The Backyard Market a few years ago, Deen purchased a log of European-style butter from Sawatch Artisan Foods. She was inspired to create gourmet caramel sauce and took some to the owners of Sawatch. They enjoyed it so much, they started sharing it with friends.

“I started getting requests for orders,” Deen says. “I spoke to my husband; we agreed that a little booth at the market would be a wonderful way to spend our weekends.”

Cotton Blossom Caramels are still made exclusively with Sawatch Artisan Foods European-Style Butter.

Family, Talent, and Love

With the amazing support and handy skills of her family, Deen’s dream soon became a reality. Cotton Blossom Caramel Boutique was a market favorite almost immediately. Along with the high-quality ingredients, innovative confections and delicious sauces, there is another element responsible for Deen’s success: Love. Her grandma taught her well.

“I want to provide a sweet and kind experience you'll remember!” she says. “I work hard to make gourmet caramel goodness you'll want to gather your family around to experience. And if in some way, I've gathered friends and family together for a memorable experience, then I've made your life sweeter, one spoonful at a time.”

Cabin in the Woods

After a few summers at the Backyard Market, Deen had the opportunity to open a storefront in the Black Forest. It provided more space to expand her line of gourmet caramel products, while also providing Deen with an additional creative outlet: decorating. Each holiday, Deen transforms her little cabin into a festive wonderland that creates the perfect backdrop for her seasonal products.

In addition to the storefront cabin, you can find Cotton Blossom Caramel at Vintage Market Days and various farmers markets in the summer months.
