Holiday traditions. Some are eye-roll worthy (you love them still). Others are steeped in nostalgia, that sweet sorrow of wistful remembrance. Still others are new, hopeful to be invited back to the annual fête. Magnolia Springs Loveland has one of its own—a vibrant, versatile (oh-so-easy) recipe they’re excited to share, in the hopes it becomes your get-together go-to. This classic marinara is uncomplicated and unabashedly delish (it’s all in the tomatoes)—a kitchen staple perfect for pasta, pizza, parmigiana and more. It’s the foundation of the senior living community’s annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, the proceeds of which benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati. Even more to give thanks for? This event’s generous sponsors, are Edward Jones of Loveland and Home Instead. Dine in or drive-through (but please RSVP, suggested donation $10/meal)—Wednesday, November 8 from 4–6pm.

Magnolia Springs’ House-made Marinara

ingredients:
- 28-oz can whole San Marzano tomatoes
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 2 large fresh basil leaves

makes: 6 servings
prep: 5 mins
cook: 25 mins
total: 30 mins

directions:
1. Pour tomatoes in a large bowl and crush them by hand, reserving all juices. Set aside.
2. In a large heavy-bottomed skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and simmer until golden, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Don’t let garlic burn or brown, as it will become bitter.
3. Gently add the reserved tomatoes and juice, being careful not to splash or spatter the oil.
4. Stir in salt and basil leaves, then simmer until sauce is thickened slightly, about 15–20 minutes.
5. Taste and add more salt if needed.
6. Remove from heat, and serve over your favorite pasta. Hint: Goes great with fresh-grated Parmesan or Romano. And meatballs. And garlic bread. And …
