Catching a Cold When It’s Warm
Our internal medicine physician's advice on managing a summer cold.
Summer is here, but the bacteria and viruses that cause common colds didn’t get the memo. The good news is, you have the power to strengthen your immune system and decrease your risk of getting sick by simply enjoying your summer!
1. Boost your vitamin D levels. Did you know you can get vitamin D from the sun? Low vitamin D levels weaken your immune system. By soaking up the sun and increasing your vitamin D levels, you can help defend your body from invading viruses and bacteria, keeping you healthy.
2. Spend more time outdoors. Whether you’re at the pool, on the beach, golfing, or on a boat, when you’re outside, exposed to fresh air, you’re protecting yourself from getting sick! You’re less likely to be too close to others, and as a result, less likely to catch germs and viruses that are trying to spread.
3. Enjoy the high temperatures and humidity. The cells in your lungs defend you against cold-causing viruses much better when they are warm and wet. Also, viruses have trouble replicating when it’s too hot. So, rather than staying indoors in the AC, enjoy the weather around you, your body will thank you for the extra defense!

Finding your own style with TS City Chic
I'm embracing my 50s and want to inspire women to be chic at any age. Love the skin you are in and wear whatever brings you joy. Trends aren't defined by age. Define your own style. Take pieces of trends and make them your own.
Let’s talk summer fashion trends in 2022!
- Wear what is comfortable and makes sense: dresses, shorts, micro skirts (yes, trending) and maxi skirts in breathable, cool fabrics. I'm loving maxi skirts (so chic), with a simple tee, tank or halter and top with hat.
- This summer is all about color: neon brights, bright greens, pinks and yellows. I love a more neutral style with a pop of color from bright shoes, bags, a belt or blazer.
- The cutout trend is stronger than ever, and no, you’re not too old to wear it! Show as little or as much as you want and what makes you feel good. There are so many beautiful cutout styles that show just a “peek-a-boo” of skin, tastefully and so sophisticated!

- Travel to these cooler destinations: Galicia (North West Spain), Pais Vasco (Northern Spain), Tanzania (Eastern Africa).
- Maria says, pack these: a first aid kit and "go to" tablets, a soft bag for treasures, and a denim jacket - it goes with everything.
