When Mattamy Homes donated $800,000 to the American Red Cross in support of communities hit hard by Hurricane Ian, the company was acting from a core principle of caring.
“We’re so blessed to have the founder of Mattamy Homes, Peter Gilgan, place such value in time, talent, and treasure, says Rick Severance, president of the Wellen Park division for Mattamy Homes.
Mattamy, the parent company of Wellen Park (mattamyhomes.com/florida/sarasota-bradenton/venice/wellen-park), also gave $200,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund and announced a package of support initiatives to help its own team members in this time of stress.
Donations like Mattamy’s go to help provide shelter, food, and comfort – mostly through hundreds of local volunteers – to Hurricane Ian survivors all across Florida, according to Chris Purnell, executive director of the American Red Cross of Southwest Florida, which serves Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties.
“We value the Red Cross and what it does most effectively, which is to strategically place and prioritize funds based on need," says Rick. "This really is about meeting the needs of people with an organization who can put this donation to work as fast and efficiently as possible.”
