McKinney’s recent recognition as a bonafide 'Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community' highlights the city’s ongoing efforts to invite discovery and enhance the visitor experience. This designation, awarded by Travel Texas, celebrates McKinney’s commitment to fostering tourism as a strategic tool for economic growth and cultural enrichment.
The certification process, completed by the Visit McKinney team, included a rigorous community self-assessment and tourism-focused training. It highlights McKinney’s readiness to collaborate with state and regional partners to strengthen its tourism strategy. According to Visit McKinney Executive Director Aaron Werner, this milestone positions McKinney alongside other progressive Texas destinations, opening doors for increased visibility, resources and coordinated planning.
“Tourism in McKinney already has a strong foundation, contributing $301.3 million in travel spending and supporting 2,200 jobs in 2024 alone,” states Aaron. “With this new designation, city leaders aim to expand these benefits by drawing more visitors, increasing overnight stays and funding community projects through tourism-generated tax revenue.”
Visit McKinney staffers work to attract visitors to the community to generate economic impact by promoting and developing McKinney as a destination for business and leisure travelers alike so they’ll fully experience McKinney’s historic charm and friendly atmosphere. Visitors are invited to explore McKinney through its thriving downtown, rich history and vibrant natural offerings. McKinney’s blend of old and new promises something for everyone, reminds Aaron.
McKinney offers year-round opportunities to explore, from signature events such as Arts in Bloom and Oktoberfest, to creative installations like the tiny doors project scattered throughout downtown. Visit McKinney personnel provide a digital visitors guide, social media inspiration and curated experiences to help locals and tourists discover the hidden gems that make McKinney one of Texas' most inviting places to explore.
