Meals on Wheels Senior Services (MOWSS) of Rockwall County has been a steadfast presence in the community since 1978, built on a simple yet profound mission: to keep the elderly and disabled citizens of Rockwall County living independently with dignity in their own homes. What began as a grassroots effort to deliver meals to a handful of homebound neighbors has grown into a vital nonprofit organization serving hundreds of seniors across the county every day.
For many older adults, aging in place is their greatest wish. But living independently often comes with challenges, nutritional needs, limited mobility, and social isolation, to name a few. MOWSS meets those challenges head-on by providing not only nutritious, home-delivered meals but also essential safety checks and daily interaction with caring volunteers. This personal connection is often the only human contact a senior may have all day. Volunteers and staff alike often become extended family for many clients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are not overlooked.
The impact of MOWSS on the Rockwall community is both measurable and deeply personal. In 2024 alone, over 95,000 meals were served to nearly 600 seniors and disabled individuals in Rockwall County. These meals are more than food, they are a lifeline. The organization also provides caregiver support resources, pet food for companion animals, and holiday and birthday gift programs to make sure no senior feels forgotten.
Local support is the cornerstone of this work. All donations directly support services for local residents. Meals on Wheels Senior Services operates without state or federal mandates, allowing them to respond quickly and creatively to the unique needs of their community. Whether responding to an unexpected crisis, such as a senior without electricity, or developing innovative programs to combat loneliness, the team at MOWSS is always working to uplift and protect one of the community’s most vulnerable populations.
Yet, none of this is possible without community involvement. There are many ways for individuals, businesses, and civic groups to make a difference. Volunteer opportunities include meal delivery, wellness check calls, special event assistance, and helping at the new Senior Life Center currently under construction. Financial contributions are also essential. Even a modest monthly gift can provide ongoing support that sustains vital services year-round.
One of the most meaningful ways to support the mission of Meals on Wheels Senior Services is by attending its signature annual fundraising event, the Wings of Wisdom Gala. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Hilton Dallas Rockwall Lakefront. The evening is a celebration of the wisdom and resilience of the seniors MOWSS serves, featuring live entertainment, impactful stories, a luxury raffle, and opportunities to invest in the future of senior services in Rockwall County.
MOWSS’s construction of a new Senior Life Center and on-site commercial kitchen directly responds to the urgent and growing needs of Rockwall County's aging and disabled populations and represents a strategic investment in the long-term sustainability, equity, and impact of the organization’s services. At the heart of this initiative is the state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, which will restore their ability to prepare and deliver fresh, nutritious meals daily. The new kitchen will give MOWSS full control over food quality and nutrition, allowing them to offer meals that are health-conscious, culturally appropriate, and prepared with compassion and care.
Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County is more than a meal provider, it is a beacon of care, connection, and community. As the county continues to grow, so does the need for support. Getting involved today helps ensure that no senior in Rockwall County ever feels hungry, forgotten, or alone.
Whether delivering a hot meal, sponsoring a table at the Gala, or offering a warm smile to a neighbor in need, every act of support strengthens the foundation of care that MOWSS has built for over four decades. Your time, generosity, and heart can change a life, right here at home.
