Meet Dr. Bailey and Dr. Erin

These Female Dermatologists Dig Deep Into Their Careers, Lives and Advice

What has been your experience as a female dermatologist?

Dr. Bailey Lee: I absolutely love being a female dermatologist.  I have generally experienced only mutual respect amongst dermatologist colleagues of all genders and have extremely rewarding relationships with my patients. The positivity that I feel when helping a patient with a chronic, debilitating skin condition or simply helping someone feel more confident in their own skin makes the challenges worth it.

Dr. Erin Luxenberg Hammer: We are so lucky to practice in a field with a very strong female presence. I have many amazing female mentors and colleagues so I feel extremely well-supported.

What do you love about your profession?

Dr. Bailey: There is nothing better than connecting with patients and making a positive impact in their lives. Whether it's the teenager with acne or the new mom with melanoma, the ability to treat them with care and dignity so that they are able to live their life and not have to focus on their skin condition is incredibly rewarding.

Dr. Erin: I think we have the best job in the world. What a privilege to be able to enhance patient health in a way that they can often quite literally see.

What advice do you have for taking care of female skin?

Dr. Bailey: The single most important thing is to understand that we all have different skin types and skin care needs.  What works for one person on TikTok may cause problems for another skin type.  I often preach to my patients that keeping it simple is the best policy:  a gentle cleanser, a basic moisturizer and the most important common thread that all skin types require for healthy skin: sun protection.

Dr. Erin: Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!

What do you love about the Minneapolis community?

Dr. Bailey: I have lived in this community for 20 years and every year I grow to appreciate it more. I love my walk to work every morning, seeing and interacting with my community, and knowing that I am providing them with a valuable service.

Dr. Erin: We live and work in such a vibrant area. I love walking to work. I love chatting with neighborhood business owners. I love our “small town” mentality while being part of the “big city.”
