Leading with Compassion

Providing critical care close to home.

Something you learn quickly in the company of Dr. David Sinclair is that he is always in motion and leads by example.

The new President and CEO of AdventHealth Daytona Beach is a man of science and medicine who believes in the power of the spirit. He is a servant leader who makes his rounds these days through all the halls of the hospital gathering real-time feedback. He is overseeing the final stages of the hospital’s expansion to a 1,000,000 sq. ft. facility this year – the equivalent of 15+ football fields.

Dr. Sinclair is an approachable and thoughtful executive who radiates a passion and dedication to health care – a calling first sparked by his mother, a medical secretary who introduced him to the world of medicine. The dedication to community and teamwork that he brings to the table originates in the leadership opportunities he found growing up within a strong faith-based community.

“It’s important to me that our mission is expressed not only through the care our teams provide to patients but also through our attention to the environment,” said Dr. Sinclair. “We are absolutely here to fix the physical ailments that our community clearly needs, but beyond that we know that people are hurting. What we hear, see, and feel when we are at the hospital helps heal us.”

Part of that experience is providing advanced critical care close to home, so area residents don’t need to travel far for treatments.

“With our expansion, we will be providing more local access to top physicians, more innovation, and more resources with the promise to provide whole-person care: healing the body, mind, and spirit,” Dr. Sinclair said.

Recognition and Results

In addition to more than 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Sinclair brings five years of Chief Medical Officer service to his leadership role, including two years in Daytona Beach. Under Dr. Sinclair’s leadership, the hospital has earned multiple awards including:

  • #1 hospital in the Deltona–Daytona Beach metro area (U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2025)
  • High performing hospital in 14 adult procedures and conditions (U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2025)
  • Multiple American Heart Association/American Stroke Association awards, including the Get With the Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Elite Quality Achievement Award, Thrombectomy-Capable Certification for Stroke Care, Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
  • "A" Rating From Hospital Safety Score and The Leapfrog Group
  • Governor’s Sterling Award for Excellence, Truven Health Analytics Top 100 Hospitals Everest Award, and Leapfrog “A” Rating in patient safety and top quartile mortality metrics
  • Five-star recognition from Healthgrades® in labor and delivery care and gynecologic procedures
  • Volusia County’s Most Preferred Hospital Since 2010 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services)

The hospital’s growth while maintaining excellence is a testament to both the perseverance of the local team and AdventHealth’s re-investment philosophy. The hospital’s reputation and supportive culture have attracted nearly 200 highly trained physicians and advanced practice providers in a wide range of specialties through the AdventHealth Medical Group at Daytona Beach.

Neurology

AdventHealth Daytona Beach is home to an award-winning team recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center – the highest recognition for treating serious stroke events – and the only one of its kind in northeast Florida. The hospital uses the cutting-edge O-arm® Imaging System, a tool that allows the care team to take 3D images of the body during surgery for better precision, smaller incisions, and faster recovery. It is also one of the few facilities in the region performing thrombectomies – a lifesaving stroke procedure performed up to 24 hours after symptoms begin.

“When it comes to stroke, every minute matters,” said Dr. Erinc Akture, an interventional neurosurgeon at the hospital. “We are using advanced technology to give patients a second chance at life.”

Cardiology

The award-winning cardiology department uses the ground-breaking da Vinci robotic system to offer minimally invasive surgery with improved precision and faster recovery. Like the O-arm®, the camera and robotic arms give surgeons a magnified, 3D-view inside the body and provide a greater range of motion than the human hand alone.

Dr.  Patrick Mangonon, a leading cardiothoracic surgeon at the hospital, has performed more than 700 robotic-assisted heart and lung surgeries and was the first in Florida to use the da Vinci to treat long-standing atrial fibrillation.

“With every procedure, we’re improving outcomes and giving patients the best chance for recovery,” per Mangonon.

Colorectal Care

Colorectal cancer remains the third most common cancer in the U.S. Early detection is crucial since symptoms often don’t appear until later stages.

AdventHealth Daytona Beach uses advanced screenings and treatment options to improve patient outcomes including:

  • The Intuitive Ion Endoluminal System for precise early cancer detection
  • Direct access colonoscopies and at-home screening kits
  • Traditional and robotic surgery

Dr. Timothy Tolland, a colorectal surgeon at the hospital, emphasizes the importance of routine screenings. “Colonoscopies can find pre-cancerous polyps. If you are prone to those, or have a family history, you should have a colonoscopy every five years,” advises Tolland. “Colon cancer is preventable with polyp removal.”

Head & Neck Reconstruction

Dr. Martin Corsten, an accomplished head and neck surgeon, recently joined the team and brings advanced techniques, including robotic surgeries, to the Daytona Beach community. “Dr. Corsten’s arrival last year is an important step in expanding our community’s access to highly specialized care,” said Dr. David Sinclair.

Daytona Beach now has access close to home for complex facial reconstruction, cancer treatment, and delicate voice, throat, and salivary gland procedures.

“Head and neck conditions can impact everything from speaking and swallowing to appearance and overall health,” Corsten said. “The right surgical care can make a life-changing difference, and I’m honored to bring my expertise to this community.”

Women’s & Children’s Services

The Women’s & Children’s Services team is led by Fortunata A. Hansen, MSN, RN, CPPS, who brings her lifelong passion for nursing to her role treating women in all stages of life. The goal of the award-winning team is to be a destination for comprehensive women's and children’s services.

Keeping up with technology is a challenge for all industries, but efforts are already underway to roll out “smart rooms” outfitted with advanced technology. The human touch is critical, though, and Ms. Hansen also plans to introduce Care Navigators to the care team. Pre-birth, birth, post-birth, and the hormonal stages of life are complex experiences that can be easier to negotiate with someone by your side.

“Nursing is both a science and an art,” said Ms. Hansen. “It demands empathy, courage, and clinical excellence. At its core, we serve as advocates for those who cannot always speak for themselves.”

Powered by Purpose & Philanthropy

Success for the non-profit hospital thrives on community support and philanthropy through AdventHealth Daytona Beach's Foundation. Community members can make tax-deductible donations raising funds for programs and services. Foundation staff work directly with donors to ensure the intent of the giver is honored whether it be through event support, naming rights, or planned gifts.

The community’s health is dependent on this funding so that all people in the hospital’s care can benefit from new technologies, advanced facilities, and compassionate programs – from life-saving treatments and community wellness initiatives to groundbreaking women’s health services.

The hospital is dedicated to medical innovation with the promise to extend the healing ministry of Christ, treating every patient with excellence, empathy, and heart.

All staff wear a heart badge reminder to care for patients and families like they would care for their own.

“Together, we can make this vision a reality for everyone in our community,” said Nika Hosseini - Board Chair of the Foundation. “But we’re especially proud to be expanding services for our mothers, daughters, sisters, and grandmothers in the re-imagined Women’s & Children’s Services department. With community support, we are expanding our ability to care for women at every stage of life—right here at home.”
