Meet the Makers

Local Artists, Artisans and Creatives Share Their Talents and Inspiration

Keely Scheider

Artisan & Candle Maker, The Black Out Co.

After losing her mom in 2015, Keely decided to pursue her passions. She looked to the times spent with her mom; sewing, creating mosaics, turning old furniture into new treasures, and made it her profession. Black Out Co. candles are crafted in her own handmade concrete cement vessels, hand-carved wooden dough bowls sourced from various makers, as well as resin vessels for release in Spring 2022. Inspo comes from nature, art, even from her kids. Her process is chaotic, ideas emerging in the middle of the night or by accident.

Renee Reese

Watercolor artist & Modern Calligrapher, Hopscotch Art

Renee believes that making art should be just as fun as recess, playful and joy-filled. Many of her watercolor paintings turn into cards as an expression of her heart, pairing a sentimental greeting and a colorful watercolor. Subjects range from Colorado landscapes to flowers at Hudson Gardens to a bowl of cherries. Renee also teaches art, preferring to call herself an “art encourager” to create a nurturing environment for creating. “Art is the heart expressing itself and inviting a connection between us.”

Maisy Coors

Singer, Songwriter & Actress

Valor freshman Maisy Coors, sixth generation member of the Colorado brewing family, felt the call of the stage at 9 years old. She was asked to audition for a musical by her friend, who didn't want to do it alone. Her friend didn't actually show up, but Maisy went ahead with her audition and was selected. That first show sparked an interest in performing she has been pursuing since. She has a number of original songs, including "Remember the Moment," which she wrote about two best friends, telling the story of the time before they became close.
