Could you share a little bit about yourself?
I’ve lived in Parker for 13 years now. I love it. No plans to move. I’m a full-time single dad. I work multiple jobs. I play in a band and run as a sound engineer at Tailgate. And then, you know, I travel with my kids. I’m super involved with both of my kids' lives. They’re 12 and 14. I also take care of my elderly dad. So, I guess to sum it up, I’m just a fully active, nonstop man on the run.
What are you passionate about?
Getting by properly in life and having fun. You gotta make that money to live, right? And then, obviously, music and all the things within being a sound engineer. Being in the band for 10 years now, music would probably be my biggest passion. And I love cars. Having a diverse array of cars on the way, from classics to modern. For me, it’s about music, cars and family.
What do you love about being a musician?
I’d say mostly the entertainment aspect of it all. When you do it as a band, you’re there to entertain. And when you have giant crowds that are having fun, singing along, dancing, clapping and enjoying life, it takes away from their daily grind. It focuses on the fun moment right there. So that’s my biggest priority on why I love being a musician. It’s the entertainment aspect that makes it worth it.
Could you share about your band, 90s Til Dawn?
We’re a 90s alternative rock mainly, but we try to make it all fun and danceable, sing-along stuff. But yeah, 10 years with the original lineup, with just the occasional fill-in player here and there, but otherwise, we have the same lineup. I’m the lead guitarist. It’s great! You know, we’ve played Coors Field. We play Broncos games out front. We've played awesome beer festivals. Highs and lows, you know. We’ve played with two people, and we’ve played with 5000 people. So, it’s really a thrill, and we hope to just keep going.
What made you start the band?
I had an original band before, and it can be difficult to do original music and keep a bunch of different people on the same page. Whereas a cover band has a kind of instant gratification. You play your part, and it sounds great. I was looking to get out and play quicker and have some fun, and that’s how 90s Til Dawn was born.
You mention cars, can you share about your love for cars?
It’s funny because my dad is not into cars at all in any way, shape or form, at all my entire life. It’s my own found passion. I’ve had race cars, classics, motorcycles, monster trucks, kind of all of it. I joke that with my classic car I should have a license plate that should say PTSD, but at the same time they just look like a million bucks when they’re done right. They’re a lot of fun, and it’s fun to share the stories with people where it takes them back.
I’m out of the classic range temporarily, but I’ve got the new Corvette. It’s a souped-up 2022 Corvette C8 Z51 with Lambo doors, custom lighting and a loud exhaust. It’s a little more reliable than the classic cars, and everywhere you go it brings a smile to people’s faces. The very first hour I had it, three different people stopped me, saying, “Oh, I love your car!” And I mean, yeah, I could get smoked by a Tesla or a faster car, but my car brings a lot of joy to people. That’s the fun in it. It attracts a lot of people just to chat.
Because this is our style issue, what does style mean to you?
I’m a man of simple fashion. Let’s put it that way. I’m like a Mark Zuckerberg: jeans and the same hoodie. Style for me is simple but effective. I’m like the Man in Black, Johnny Cash. Keep it simple, you know. Jeans and a black shirt kind of a thing. But you know, have a little bit of swagger in your style. Take care of yourself, present with somewhat of an effort in appearance and that’s gonna look good. Looking good. Feeling good.
What do you love about living in Parker and the community at Tailgate?
For Parker in general, it’s relatively safe and quiet. It’s growing really fast, but it has almost everything I need. A few more amenities here and really there’s no point to leave.
Tailgate has been great. I’ve been working there for almost 8 years in different roles. It’s reliable, great and fun. Great bands come through. That’s kind of the best part. I get to meet all these other bands and gain other perspectives on music that give me ideas for myself. It’s just a lot of fun. I have no intentions of stopping any time soon. It’s fun. It’s interesting. It’s like I get paid to have fun. That makes it easy.
What is your encouragement to the Parker community?
Not everything has to be a big deal. You don’t need road rage. Just calm down and live your life. Not everyone that cuts you off has to be yelled at. Chill. Chill and live. It’s what you make of it.
