A Modern Twist on Fashion History

Student embody the inspiring work of Richard Blackwell

While Richard Blackwell might have been best known for his work as a fashion  critic, his contributions to the world of fashion go much further than that. An accomplished designer of textiles and clothing, Mr. Blackwell's body of work is extensive.

After The Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising at CSU was gifted a private collection of his work, Blackwell began developing a relationship with the museum. Now the largest collection of Blackwell's designs, garments, and archives, the museum's collection is a slice fashion history that directly benefits students. In addition to working to preserve the collection, students have had the opportunity to study the techniques and styles that made Blackwell's work so unique. To celebrate what would have been Mr. Blackwells 100th birthday year, the collection is being displayed alongside student works inspired by his contributions at the Avenir Museum's 'Blackwell 100' exhibit. More information on the exhibit and October 6th opening Gala can be found at the Avenir Museum website.
