Mojo's Tacos: Bringing Good Food and Good Times to Thompson's Station

What began as a food truck back in 2017, has become so much more for the owners of Mojo’s Tacos. Fast forward five years and their food truck has turned into not just one, but two brick and mortar locations, with the first in Franklin and now the newest Mojo’s Tacos location recently opening in Thompson’s Station Tollgate Village.

Throughout the pandemic, Mojo’s Tacos owners Travis Anderson, Will Butler, Bill Butler, and Dave Story found that they had great success in the neighborhoods of Thompson’s Station. With two of the restaurant’s four owners living in Franklin near the flagship location and the other two calling Thompson’s Station home, it was only fitting to choose the area for the second store after seeing such high demand from customers there.

When dreaming up the vision for Mojo’s Tacos, Chef and Owner Dave Story wanted the restaurant to be a place fit for all occasions that offered something for everyone.“When I started coming up with the concept of what I wanted it to be, I kind of wanted it to be a ‘veto-free’ restaurant,” recalls Story. “You know when you have your kids and there’s always one person who doesn’t want to eat somewhere where everyone else wants to eat? So that’s how I kind of came up with it. I was like ‘What if we did a taco concept that was great for the kids, but could be date night for the parents, [and a place to] grab a beer with the guys?’ That’s kind of how I wanted to gear the menu, so that it kind of had a little bit of everything for everybody.”

When it comes to the menu, the new location has a variety of fun and unique menu items that go beyond your average taco, such as the Green Chili Cheeseburger, which is a special menu item at the Franklin location but a mainstay on the Thompson’s Station menu. “It has the core of Franklin, but there are some different items on this one,” says Story of the menu.

“We are scratch. We make our own corn tortillas and press our own flour tortillas, so we’re a little different than your standard taco place. We smoke our meats on site…we do everything the way we should do it,” he explains. Taking the homemade touch a step further, at Mojo’s Tacos kids even get free popsicles that are made in house!

As for his favorite menu item, that’s a hard question for Chef Story to answer because he loves them all. This week for him, it’s the hot chicken tacos—which are a crowd favorite that keep diners coming back for more. Be sure to stop into the new Mojo’s Tacos location to enjoy some great food and say hi to Chef Story!
