Mom's Day Out

From Tranquil Museums to Can't Miss Eats, Unwind and Recharge Solo Style!

Sometimes, mamas just need a break. After a busy week of carpooling, baseball practice, and snack duty, every mom needs time to themselves. Sometimes, it's a peaceful spot to catch their breath and be present in a given moment, but it can also be a margarita paired with a shopping spree! Thankfully, West Fort Worth beckons every type of mom with a treasure trove of rejuvenating havens where they can take a well-deserved break from the whirlwind of parenting. Whether it is a toddler mom in need of solitude, or a pre-teen parent looking to reward themselves for surviving mid-term exams, Fort Worth has the perfect prescription, and it's never far from home.

1. Archie's GardenLand

Just what every hardworking mom needs, a seat at a farm-to-table cafe manned by an expert chef, surrounded by lush blooms and the finest greenery in Fort Worth. Luckily for everyone within drivable distance, this Spring, Archie's Gardenland is teaming up with a local chef and restaurant owner to bring the ladies of Fort Worth: Heirlooms, a unique culinary experience inside a garden at Archie's.

The nursery itself has been a Fort Worth landscaping institution since 1934, founded by N.E. Archie Sr., and lauded as a big tree installing specialist. Today, degreed foresters and horticulturists tend to a diverse collection of plants at the nursery, so quality is guaranteed.

2. Gavrel Furs

As the eternal Eartha Kitt once crooned, "Just slip a sable under the tree, for me." While her list didn't stop at the weasel-like fur, it's at the top of Ms. Kitt's list for a reason. Nothing says luxury to a woman like fur, and nobody deserves fur more than a mother. Gravel's Fur off Camp Bowie Blvd. has been caring for the fur needs of Fort Worth's finest since 1940, a full-fledged furrier offering on-site cold storage, cleaning/glazing, repairs, alterations, restyling, and, of course, new and pre-owned furs for sale.

So, check out Gravel's the next time a free minute pops up or, "Think of all the fun you'll miss."

3. Modern Art Museum

A visit to The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is not the school field trip from your childhood. Instead, patrons will find a breathtaking architectural building, modern in design, with interestingly placed art and sculptural installations overhead and on the walls. Before heading upstairs, grab a coffee, and french fries to make it a girl dinner, at the Cafe Modern.

Outside, the water-filled courtyard provides peaceful spaces to catch up on a good book.

Moms will enjoy the option to bring or leave their kids at home, as the space hosts children's lessons and interactive camps, although the experience is just as enjoyable solo.

4. Neighbor's House (Lunch)

Whether enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, indulging in delicious pastries, or simply savoring a moment of solitude, Neighbor's House caters to the caretaker's need for peaceful respite, making it the perfect destination for a solo mom close to burnout. Not only is the food exceptional and non-fussy, but patrons can also treat themselves to the restaurant's wine and beer bar once inside.

Lunch starts at 11 a.m., and then, it's belly up to the banquet with award-winning burgers, street tacos, and sides like crispy Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and green beans.

5. Ramblin Trails

Once you have your sable, stop by Ramblin Trails and get fitted for custom cowboy boots. Moms can grab boots one of three ways, made-to-measure, customizing a stock pair, or just grabbing a stock pair off the shelves for the mama on the go. But if you have time, peruse The Western Collective, the shop's home decor and fashion area with leather goods, silver jewelry, prints and framed original art pieces, other decor, and ranch gear, all made in Texas, because if a Fort Worthian is wearing it, it should be Texas made!

6. Ring Reforms Pilates+

Have you been telling yourself to try the new Pilates place around the corner since January? Well, take this as your official sign to join Ring Reforms Pilates+. Seriously. It's not just another gym pushing unrealistic expectations or half-baked diet advice, but a haven for moms seeking balance, strength, and harmony, and there won't be many (if any) gym bros there, trust me. Ring Reforms offers classes suitable for all body types and skill levels.
