After nearly 20 years in corporate HR consulting, Christy Boswell was ready to build something rooted in purpose, community, and her love of dogs. When she discovered Scenthound, she saw more than a grooming concept. She saw an opportunity to help pet owners think differently about routine care and give dogs a healthier, happier life.
Today, that mission is the heart of everything she does.
As the multi-unit owner of Scenthound, Boswell is passionate about helping pet owners understand the importance of preventative care before problems arise. While many people associate professional grooming with a fresh haircut or a shiny coat, she believes regular attention to a dog's skin, ears, nails, teeth, and coat is an important part of overall wellness. Since opening her first Scenthound location, Boswell has continued expanding the brand across Colorado and now owns multiple locations, with a fifth on the way.
That purpose ultimately led Boswell to Scenthound. “Before Scenthound, I spent nearly 20 years in corporate America as an HR consulting professional. When my husband and I decided to pursue franchise ownership, we knew we wanted to build a business around something we were passionate about, and pet care was a natural fit. What stood out about Scenthound was its unique approach. Rather than focusing primarily on appearance, Scenthound is built around routine hygiene and preventative care for every dog. I was especially drawn to the S.C.E.N.T. Check, which gives pet parents regular feedback about their dog's skin, coat, ears, nails, and teeth. By documenting changes over time, we're able to identify potential concerns early and encourage owners to seek veterinary care when needed. That proactive approach has the potential to improve health outcomes and help dogs live longer, healthier lives.”

For Boswell, the work goes far beyond routine appointments. One of the most rewarding parts of her day is helping owners better understand their dogs. Whether it's teaching someone how to recognize early signs of skin irritation or explaining why routine nail care matters, those conversations often give pet owners greater confidence in caring for the animals they love.
“If I could recommend just one habit, it would be brushing your dog's teeth as often as possible. Around 80% of dogs show signs of periodontal disease by the age of three, and dental disease can affect far more than just their mouth. Beyond that, regularly checking your dog's ears, paws, nails, and skin while you're petting them can help you notice changes early. Small, consistent habits make a big difference over the course of a dog's life,” says Christy.
Community involvement has become a natural extension of Boswell's philosophy that every dog deserves attentive care, whether they're a family companion, a newly adopted rescue, or a working dog serving others.
According to Christy, “One of the things we're most proud of is partnering with multiple law enforcement agencies to provide complimentary hygiene services for their working therapy dogs. We've cared for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office SRO therapy dogs for nearly five years, some since they were puppies! Those dogs spend every day taking care of our community, and being able to take care of them is one of the most rewarding things we do. We also partner with Humane Colorado and several local rescue organizations by providing complimentary first-time hygiene visits for newly adopted dogs, helping families get started on the right foot with preventative care.”
As pet ownership continues to evolve, so does the conversation around wellness. More owners are recognizing that small, consistent habits like checking ears, brushing coats, trimming nails, and maintaining good hygiene can have a lasting impact on a dog's comfort and quality of life.
According to Christy, “I hope more people begin thinking about routine hygiene the same way they think about preventative healthcare for themselves. Dogs are incredibly good at hiding discomfort, so catching small issues early can have a significant impact on their long-term health and quality of life. My hope is that more pet parents recognize that routine hygiene isn't just about keeping their dog clean; it's one of the simplest ways to help them live healthier, happier lives.”

Helping dogs feel their best means helping families enjoy more adventures, more memories, and more years with the companions who so effortlessly become part of the family.
