Jessica Walker, owner of J.Walker Salon Group and a board member of the Diva for a Day Foundation, joined community leaders and supporters at the nonprofit’s annual Do It for Diva fashion show to mark 15 years of bringing joy and beauty to women undergoing cancer treatment.
Founded in Bernardsville, New Jersey, Diva for a Day has grown into a national effort that has provided more than 3,500 women across all 50 states with a complimentary day of pampering and renewal. Partner salons such as J.Walker donate their time and expertise to deliver professional services that help restore confidence and brighten spirits for women navigating a difficult season of life.
“Diva for a Day embodies what we believe at J.Walker—that when your outer looks good, your inner feels better,” Walker says. “We are honored to serve as a salon partner and to be part of a mission that truly changes lives.”
The Sept. 17 event featured a runway showcase of fall looks from local designers and boutiques, along with personal testimonials from past “Divas” who shared how the experience offered respite, dignity and hope. Community sponsors and attendees helped raise funds to sustain and expand the program’s services in the year ahead.
Each Diva for a Day experience is tailored to the recipient and may include hair services, makeup, skincare, massage and other treatments. The foundation works with hospitals, advocacy groups and community members to nominate women who could benefit from a restorative day focused solely on their well-being. Salons that participate receive guidance on creating a supportive environment that centers the guest’s comfort and privacy.
Walker says J.Walker stylists view the work as an extension of their commitment to care. “We see firsthand how a simple blowout or a moment in the chair can lift someone’s spirit,” she says. “It’s humbling to be trusted with that.”
Organizers note that the fashion show also serves as outreach, connecting potential volunteers, salons and donors with opportunities to participate. Whether through in-kind services, financial gifts or spreading the word, supporters help the foundation reach more women across the country.
