Twenty years ago, after decades in the field and years of leading major construction efforts for others, Leon McCauley made a bold move - he opened his own company and put his name on the door. It wasn’t for branding. It was personal. A promise that every project would reflect the pride, precision and experience he brought to the job site every day.
A mechanical engineer by training and a builder by trade, Leon didn’t just want to compete, he wanted to redefine how construction gets done. With over 20 years of boots-on-the-ground experience, he knew the industry inside and out. What he saw was a process driven more by price tags and change orders than by service and trust. So, he flipped the script.
“Projects don’t build themselves - people build projects,” Leon says. And his company, McCauley Constructors, was built to serve people first. That mindset has earned them the respect of clients across the region, with nearly 80% of their work coming from repeat business and referrals.
At the core of McCauley’s philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: They design to a budget - they don’t price a design. By starting with what the client can actually afford and building the project around it, his team avoids costly redesigns and wasted time. “We’re not here to impress anyone with unrealistic plans. We’re here to deliver results that work - for the client and their bottom line.”
From entitlement and cost planning to understanding jurisdictional red tape, the McCauley team knows what it takes to get a project across the finish line with no surprises. Every detail is treated with care because every client is treated like a partner.
Though they’ve expanded to a Denver office, Windsor is still home. It’s where Leon and many longtime employees live, and where, in 2008, after a tornado destroyed their office, the company set up shop in his garage and started rebuilding - first for their neighbors, then for the community.
“Failure was never an option,” Leon says. Today, he’s passing on that same spirit to the next generation, mentoring his team to build relationships that last long after the project ends.
Leon never set out to be the biggest - just the best. And after two decades, McCauley Constructors is proof that service, integrity, and doing the right thing never go out of style.
"I never set out to be the biggest. I only set out to be the best."
