Gathering and Gratitude: Sliding Into Fall

The best fall memories start with early planning - creating a welcoming front porch

For some families, autumn begins with football. For others, it's the first crisp morning or changing leaves. For me, it has always begun with pumpkins.

As a fifth-generation East Cobb family and the daughter of a farmer, I was raised with a deep appreciation for the land, the changing seasons, and the traditions that brought people together. After fresh berry and sweet corn season ended, pumpkin season arrived - a time I eagerly anticipated. I couldn't wait to walk the fields, cut pumpkins from the vine, and carry them home. Even today, the first cool breeze instantly transports me back to those cherished moments.

But what I remember most wasn't the pumpkins. It was the porch. My grandmother's porch on Post Oak Tritt Road was where life happened. Family, neighbors, and lifelong friends gathered without invitation. Someone always brought homemade food. Stories were shared, laughter echoed into the evening, and no one seemed to be in a hurry. Looking back, I realize those afternoons weren't simply family visits - they were the moments that built community.

Those memories became the inspiration for Praise Pumpkins.  As my business partner, Barbara Williams, often says, "The entrance to our home is the entrance to our hearts." We believe a beautifully decorated porch is more than seasonal décor. It welcomes friends, invites conversation, and creates a place where memories naturally unfold.

Today, Praise Pumpkins transforms homes, businesses, churches, shopping destinations, festivals, and community spaces throughout Metro Atlanta with custom-designed fall installations. From sourcing pumpkins to installation, maintenance, and removal, we handle every detail so families and businesses can simply enjoy the season.

The greatest reward, however, isn't the finished display. It's watching children race to the front porch, neighbors stop to admire the pumpkins, friends gather for photos, and families linger together just a little longer. Those are the moments that remind us why we do what we do.

To us, pumpkins have always represented far more than autumn. They symbolize harvest, gratitude, abundance, and God's faithfulness. More importantly, they create opportunities for connection. If one porch encourages another conversation, one gathering, or one lasting family memory, then Praise Pumpkins has fulfilled its purpose - bringing people together and celebrating the community we are super proud to call home, one porch at a time.
