With the holiday season complete, some of us may be conscious of the extra weight we put on. We can just eat less and skip a few meals to get our weight back on track, right?
Oftentimes, the first thing we think about when we want to lose weight is dieting, specifically calorie restriction. When we jump on the scale, we are automatically looking for the number of pounds to decrease, and when it does, we congratulate ourselves for having achieved something positive.
The problem is that even though we lost some weight, we usually do not lose fat. Our body is very resourceful and needs nutrition and if we are not giving it enough, it will cannibalize the muscle. The term for this is catabolic; our body is burning muscle, not fat.
It is true that if we stop eating, we will see the number on the scale drop, however, we are more than likely losing muscle mass, hydration, and even bone mass because we are depriving ourselves of nutrition. All of this will harm us even further because our metabolism drastically slows down, thus making it much easier for the body to store fat, which is the opposite of what we wanted in the first place.
Calorie restriction also has devastating effects on the skin. For example, it can cause sagging and crepey skin quality all over the body, including the face. Without sufficient nutrition, we break down the collagen in the skin, which causes it to lose its elasticity.
The result of calorie restriction is usually poor skin quality and the appearance of weight loss in the face, breasts, and butt, but not the midsection or hips or thighs. And somewhere between the age of 35 to 40, even exercise can become insufficient when trying to lose fat. Exercising will usually result in weight loss in the face, breasts, and butt, not always in the midsection.
In the war against fat - especially visceral fat which is stored in the abdominal cavity - the use of technology can be a game changer.
The use of fat burning technology can help our body naturally metabolize fat, even in stubborn areas, while improving skin quality and maintaining cellular hydration, muscle mass, and bone mass with the desired result to look more vibrant and restore our youthful figure.
So, the next time you think about skipping a meal, think again.
