A BOUTIQUE ESCAPE IN PARADISE (VALLEY)

Mountain Shadows set the benchmark for desert luxury and distinctive design when it first opened in 1959. Reopened in 2017, this boutique retreat has been completely re-envisioned from the ground up.

Set in the shadow of Camelback Mountain in the town of Paradise Valley, the resort sits just ten minutes from Old Town Scottsdale’s renowned dining, shopping, nightlife, and art galleries.

Contemporary design is infused with a dash of 1950s modernism and abundant natural light. Choose from chic resort guest rooms and two-story lofts in the luxurious wing of residences.

For foodies, there is plenty to enjoy on property. Hearth ’61 is the culinary focal point, serving ingredient-driven cuisine made with time-honored flavor pairings and cooking styles rich in tradition. Enjoy dishes from renowned Chef Charles Wiley, craft cocktails, local brews and an extensive wine selection. The restaurant’s bright dining room spills out onto the scenic patio and a unique, oval-shaped bar.

Flavorful events include the monthly Sunday Supper Club, which pairs four courses with wines and features an incredible winery, distillery or local purveyor; as well as monthly Spirited Sipping Seminars that combine learning and libations for the perfect afternoon.

Summer is serene, sophisticated and cool at The Citizens Club. Enjoy private poolside cabanas, a special menu of rosés from around the globe (by the glass and bottle), and a carefully crafted playlist of chill summer music.

If Champagne is more your speed, don’t miss Veuve Happy Hour. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., clink glasses with bubbles on special for $15 per glass or $75 per bottle.

Round out the resort experience with a tee time. Mountain Shadows boasts one of the only 18-hole, par-3 courses in Arizona. The Short Course has an emphasis on fun for the casual golfer as well as the serious player, featuring dramatic views of iconic Camelback Mountain.

The course is playable in under three hours, leaving time for beers and bites at Rusty’s (or poolside lounging).

If your preferred activity doesn’t include clubs, take advantage of complimentary fitness classes including Pilates, deep stretch yoga, barre, cardio strength, and TRX. In the cooler months, the resort hosts one-of-a-kind events like Zodiac Yoga & Sound Healing and Pilates & Prosecco.

Incredible hiking opportunities abound nearby. Camelback Mountain is just down the street from the resort, offering two advanced trails and unparalleled views. Choose Cholla Trail for a gradual ascent or the challenging Echo Canyon Trail with large boulders and rails for gripping.

The Phoenix Mountains Preserve is only 10 minutes away, featuring a challenging hike up Piestewa Peak along with more leisurely trails completely surrounded by the Sonoran desert landscape.

When it comes to planning your Paradise Valley escape, keep an eye out for the resort’s annual summer sale, taking place May 14 to 20 and offering the best rates of summer.

Celebrating something special? Make it memorable by reserving the Sip, Saber & Savor Experience, an immersive culinary experience for two with private events including a Champagne sabering, Spirited Sipping Seminar, and Food for Thought class.

Treat yourself to a true boutique experience at Mountain Shadows that’s relaxing yet invigorating. The resort’s iconic views and Paradise Valley location create a true sense of retreat, while the best of the Valley is still easily accessible, from horseback riding to local dining. This sleek getaway is an ideal resting stop for the design-forward, modern traveler.
