A sun-kissed tousled mane is the epitome of summer. Even if the only bright light you will see this season comes from the fluorescent glow in your cubical, you can still achieve the summer beach hair look with a few simple steps. Named after the waves that can form after taking a dip in the ocean or spending the day at the shore, beach hair is perfect for a relaxed summer look. Even better, the style doesn’t require much time and very little in the way of heating appliances.
The ultimate goal when creating this summertime look is to make it seem effortless. According to Ashley Scroggins, co-owner of Cutloose Hair in Montrose, “beach hair is a great summer look because it is easy to do, looks styled but not over-styled and works well with the Houston humidity. It is great for when you are on vacation or just going to brunch.”
Scroggins encourages her clients to approach beach hair with a less is more attitude, “You don’t want to overdo it, let loose and be a little out of control.” She says that although the style does take a little effort, it is much less than a traditional blowout. “A few sections of loose waves with a curling/waving iron should do the trick when paired with the right product.”
Scroggins gives tips for effortless textured beach hair no matter the weather this summer.
Step 1
Begin by using Oribe Foundation Mist from mid-shaft to ends to equalize porosity.
Step 2
Next, work Oribe Matte Waves (mid to ends) and either braid or twist sections based on how much texture you would like to achieve.
Step 3
Work the rest of the product (left on your palms) through to the ends to make sure the distribution is even.
Step 4
Apply heat using a hairdryer -or air dry. Once dry, gently pull apart sections to create loose waves.
Step 5
Apply heat using a hairdryer -or air dry. Once dry, gently pull apart sections to create loose waves.
Step 6
Finish the look with Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray
