Synergy Spine Center:

Providing High Caliber Care During COVID & Beyond

When Synergy Spine Center opened its doors at 696 Hampshire Road in Westlake Village last January, founder Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Erik Spayde, MD, and his team were eager to offer the highest quality of care to patients—little did they know how fortuitous the timing of their opening would be.

As the COVID crisis swept the nation, leading to the halt of elective surgeries in hospitals, Synergy Spine Center came to the rescue.

“We were able to transfer over spine cases for people who needed surgery,” says Dr. Spayde, adding that Synergy’s location also provided patients with additional peace of mind. “With the COVID issue, patients who needed treatment were really fearful of going to the hospital.”

Equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology, Synergy Spine Center serves patients needing various imaging services, minimally invasive surgery, hip and knee replacements, and advanced spinal reconstruction.

“We’re providing an amazing place where we can perform surgery with the same level of expertise and quality of equipment as in a hospital,” says Dr. Spayde, a board-certified, fellowship-trained spine surgeon with expertise in the treatment of neck and back disorders.

“There is no compromise in quality of care,” says Dr. Spayde, in fact, at Synergy, the rooms are even bigger than at some hospitals and contain the “latest, greatest hospital-grade equipment” in a safer environment with fewer people involved in patient care.

“Rather than five nurses caring for you, as in a hospital, at Synergy, you have your own nurse who’s dedicated to taking care of you,” says Dr. Spayde.

“As a surgeon, I have the comfort of bringing all kinds of spine cases to Synergy,” he says. With over 10 years of experience in treating disc herniations, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, kyphosis, scoliosis and spine fractures, Dr. Spayde specializes in multiple complex spinal disorders. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Spayde completed his residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before obtaining further training in complex spinal-reconstruction surgery at The Spine Institute at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. His breadth of training allows him to choose the proper treatment modality for his patients.

An added bonus for Synergy patients that need more time to recover after surgery is the partnership with Stay Well Recovery Center, located upstairs from Synergy.

Offering private rooms and one-one-one nursing, Stay Well helps patients recover more comfortably.

“What I find with the recovery center is that it’s more personalized, with one-on-one nursing the patients have,” Dr. Spayde says. What’s more, “Patients at Stay Well have less pain, as medication is given in a timely fashion when it is needed versus waiting in the hospital, which can cause anxiety for patients in pain,” he notes, adding “Patients really appreciate the convenience and comfort provided by Stay Well.”

In addition to spine surgeries, Dr. Spayde and the physicians at Synergy provide pain management services, epidurals, steroid injections, nerve pain blocks, spinal cord stimulators, hip and joint replacements and other such services for all ages.

Accepting PPO and Medicare insurance, Synergy offers easy access to care, including flexible scheduling and a fantastic staff of nurses and doctors who take a team approach to patient care.
