I'm Jack Kiyonaga, a writer and journalist living in Washington DC, and I’m looking forward to being a contributing writer to this exciting new publication, Chevy Chase City Lifestyle. I started my writing career in Molokai, Hawaii, where I served as the editor-in-chief of the award-winning local newspaper, The Molokai Dispatch. Since moving back to the East Coast in 2025 to begin a master’s degree in Creative Writing at NYU, I've continued to work for various news outlets on everything from a teacher's journey to clear his name to PFAS pollution to homeless outreach missions. My writing has been featured in The Banner, The Christian Science Monitor, Alexandria Times, Bethesda Magazine, National Catholic Reporter, Catholic Standard, Hana Hou, FLUX Hawaii, Honolulu Civil Beat, Halekulani Living, Ko Olina Hale and more. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in English.
Before all that, I went to Blessed Sacrament School on Chevy Chase Circle, and was one of those boys taking the Red Line down to Gonzaga College High School every morning. Having grown up in Chevy Chase, I know how special this community is. I look forward to reporting on the people, places, local businesses and more which make this area so unique.
