When a jet-setting couple returned home after a trip to their empty nest, they saw opportunities for creating new spaces for themselves. Feeling inspired, they reached out to Duffy Scott Interiors for help renovating their home to fit their new needs (and dreams).
For her, designers Christy Scott Spearman and Kate Duffy created a work space and coffee bar in a bonus room above the garage. “This was lovingly dubbed the Lady Lair by the client,” says Kate. " This space was all her, the goal was to create a space for her to work in and dial into her creativity as she was writing (she's an author). She loved the feminine side of design, but also loved modern and vintage. We pulled from all of these elements to create a colorful mash up of unique pieces that resulted in a colorful rug, custom seating, original artwork, and vintage tables. The rest of the home leaned more into modern clean design, with a few key "moments" here and there featuring stunning artwork and a few antiques from their personal collection."
For him, a sitting and reading nook was created off his current office. "His office was located on the terrace level of the home, and had a seating area to the side that became the focus of the design. There was a large stark wall that made the room feel empty and vast. While keeping the walls a clean and neutral white, we created interest by adding custom millwork and adding wall sconces," says Kate.
For them, the unfinished space in the basement is now a home gym and a powder room has received a new look.
A personal collection of art is scattered throughout the home, and splashes of color are welcoming and inspiring.
Kate & Christy have recently expanded into retail, opening “Duffy Scott Home”, located on the historic Marietta Square. Located at 77 Church Street in Marietta, Duffy Scott Home features original art, curated vintage finds, artisan goods, and hand-crafted furniture to help customers create surroundings that are both enduring and unique.
