Coffee QA with Little King Coffee

"Little King Coffee wants to build community," says Grace Gates, co-owner of The Montecito Post's coffee stop. "We imagine spaces filled with people enjoying a cookie with their 4-year-old, meeting their next neighbor, or playing a weekly game of chess."

Together with her husband, Ryan Dobosh, the two (plus one), offer artisanal coffee and bites for big people and their littles. "It's not always going to be the quietest coffee shop on the block, but Little King is a place to enjoy each other's company."

Here's more from Grace:

Who is the "Little King"?

The Little King is our wonderful son, Roger. His birth was our inspiration to open this business. We were both General Managers of fine dining restaurants (Bell's and Bar le Cote) and we thought we could bring our expertise in hospitality to something for our community and have us both home for bath time.

What does great service look like to you?

Listening. Everyone is trained at Little King to greet a guest genuinely and to not anticipate what is going to happen next. Some people want a quick coffee and no chit chat, others want to tell you about their day. That sensitivity to the person standing in front of you is great service.

If the Santa Barbara Coast were a drink from your menu, which would it be?

A Rosemary Latte topped with orange zest. It tastes like walking into a California garden in the spring.
