Deadline For 11th Annual West Chester Preservation Awards Due June 10

Nominations are open for the 11th annual West Chester Preservation Awards, which celebrates winners in these three categories:

  • Bricks and Mortar Award 
  • Preservation Service Award 
  • West Chester Preservation Legacy Award

The Preservation Awards program raises awareness and appreciation of West Chester’s significant historic character and encourages the preservation of its historic integrity. All nominations must be for projects and properties located within the borough of West Chester.

Created by the West Chester Downtown Foundation and sponsored by more than 45 businesses and benefactors, the Preservation Awards program is a cherished celebration attended by residents and distinguished leaders from West Chester businesses, governing offices, and nonprofit organizations. 

Nominations for the 2022 program must be submitted by 5 p.m. on June 10.

“By recognizing these projects and efforts, we hope to encourage and engage business owners and residents in adopting good preservation practices that strengthen the Borough,” notes Matthew Holliday, president of the board of directors of the West Chester Downtown Foundation.

The West Chester Preservation Awards was created 10 years ago by committee members Thomas Walsh, Malcolm Johnstone, Jackie Van Grofski, Jane Dorchester, A. Roy Smith, Fred Gusz, Kimberly Hall, Dawn L'heureux, Phillip Yocum and Cyndi Meadows.

Submission Procedure For Nominations:

  • Download nomination form from the West Chester Downtown Foundation website located at WCDF.org/Preservation.
  • Fill in as much information as you can about the nominee on the required page
  • Provide a brief description of the nominee’s project or contribution, explaining why it is noteworthy
  • Completed nominations can be emailed to ABurke317@aol.com or mailed to: WCDF, Attn. Preservation Awards, P.O. Box 3109, West Chester, PA 19381

Winners are scheduled to be announced on Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. “The event has become a magnet for those who love the Borough and its rich character.”says Allen Burke, Chair of the Preservation Awards Committee. “We're grateful for the continued growth of this program. It gets stronger every year.”
