Nordquist Tax & Business Services

Taking All the Stress Out of Half of Life’s Certainties

Whenever I see a tax form, I get the same feeling as when I look at modern art. Maybe it’s totally abstract. Maybe it actually means something. Who knows?

But I am certain of one thing: That form has no business in my hands. It’s a test of mathematical skill and attention to detail, which I have neither of, and it isn’t graded by some kindly old school teacher either.

That’s why I thank goodness for Nordquist Tax & Business Services. The local team of federally authorized IRS Enrolled Agents shares nearly three quarters of a century of experience in personal and corporate taxes, and offers bookkeeping services for small and medium businesses as well. Their agents’ knowledge of tax codes, deduction eligibility, and income-saving strategies saves people time, money, and the excruciation of dealing with the federal government.

“Many people find taxes to be confusing, complicated, and downright scary,” said lead tax consultant Vickie Nordquist. “Our job is to take all the worry and fear out of the process. We’ll do everything you need to get through each tax season, just short of writing the checks.”

Vickie began preparing taxes over 30 years ago, shortly after receiving her degree in accounting from University of Minnesota. She originally took the part-time job because she wanted another skillset, but it wasn’t long until she realized how rewarding tax preparation can feel. Every client she served gave her another opportunity to create peace of mind where it was needed most. She reassured them. She filed flawless tax returns for them. She kept the IRS away from them. She wouldn’t have called it heroism, but she could see it made a big difference all the same.

In addition to preparing taxes, Vickie worked at a private accounting firm where she learned how to do corporate returns. When that firm became a casualty of 2008, Vickie brought the clients she inherited to her newly founded business.

“Before I began working for myself, I was a controller,” said Vickie. “Payroll, compliance and financial statements are all second nature to me by now, but extra challenges, such as audits and PPP loans, always pop up to keep things interesting.

“We make expert corporate tax services available to many local entrepreneurs who have big dreams, but not necessarily the need or means to hire a full-time accountant and bookkeeper. I love joining businesses that are just starting out, and helping them set the foundation for their future successes. I equally enjoy partnering with already established businesses, and ensuring they can continue making profits while bringing new employment opportunities to our community. Restaurateurs, contractors, consultants, real estate investors – they all deserve to do their jobs with the confidence that can only come with support from an experienced financial team.

“And Nordquist Tax & Business Services certainly is a team effort. I’m honored to be joined by Cindy Fermanich, whose people skills are matched only by her powers of research and tax preparation. We have my daughter, Sarah Meyer, who is a real chip off the old financial block and so wonderful with our clients. We have Anita Whims, a dedicated perfectionist of a bookkeeper if there ever was one. And of course there is Linda Phillips, our office manager, who puts her warm, personal touch on each interaction we have with our clients. I thank them all for their great work!”
