North Peoria Hiking Trails

Something for Everyone on the Peoria Trails

The City of Peoria ( maintains more than 20 miles of multi-use trails. The trails take you up close to desert plants and wildlife. Watch for interesting things, but don't disturb anything you find on your hike. Remember the sunscreen!

1. Paloma Community Park Loop

The loop trail is a 1-mile moderately traveled smooth surface trail. It is suitable for all skills and abilities. The trail circles Paloma Community Park, passing picnic tables, playgrounds, ball fields, restrooms and a fishing lake.

2 Calderwood Butte Trail

Calderwood Butte Trail is a moderately difficult 1.5-mile mountain loop. It offers stunning views of the Northwest Valley and the Salt River. Be cautious of staghorn cacti at lower levels, which can snag bare legs and ankles.

3 Westwing Mountain Trail

Westwing Mountain is a 4-mile loop in Westwing Mountain Preserve. It is a more challenging trail with a steep, rocky climb. As with most mountain trails in Peoria, this one has loose rock. It is a good idea to wear strong-soled shoes with ankle support when hiking Westwing.
